Where would you rank our trio of rookies? Do you think any will be elite or phenomenal in a Steelers jersey? Will they make an impact if we make the playoffs? Are you happy with their development?

I thought this was a post about Davis burning Hargrave.

Otherwise, for me, Burns and Hargrave show signs of being long term players. Davis looks too much like a rookie.

    Playoffs, playoffs,....

If and when, all will he better. Bud should also be up to speed.

They can only be graded on "improvement" since they are far from elite rookies at this stage - and that won't truly be evident until next season. I don't see any of them setting the world ablaze this season, especially in the playoffs against top teams. Next season will define their real abilities and durability. (e.g. Troy P)

I'm assuming rookies usually make an impact on offense? Has there ever been a phenomenal rookie defensive athlete?

Gabe Rivera was well on his way.

Fastest defensive lineman I ever saw.

Hargrave looks good now that he's being put in a position to rush the passer, since Cam is injured.

Burns has the look of someone who could turn into a player. I won't go as far as saying elite...but the arrow is pointing in the correct direction.

Davis...to early to tell. He had moments the past two weeks. But the next few weeks will be more telling.

I had thought his car accident was during his rookie pre-season but the stat sheet shows him playing parts of 6 games, none as starter, 0 tackles but 2 sacks. http://www.footballdb.com/players/gabe-rivera-riverga02

First, I think all 3 can play in this league. They all have had their flaws, but I think arrows point up. Davis has missed some tackles, but they weren't usually for lack of aggression, which can be fixed. Same can be said for Burns, he tries to make a play, sometimes it comes with risk, but at the moment I will live with that. Hargrave took a little bit to give impact, but I think he is going to be fine.

Second, I truly believe we need to start talking about Burns as elite. No, I am not saying he is, I a saying we need to talk that way. Why? Because when you look at the guys who are considered as such, they are allowed to do things which non-elite guys are not. They can grab more and be more physical. I am beginning to think a reputation as a shutdown corner means as much as actually being one.

Senoir Sack was going to be great. Getting back to original question,
if they work on their game potential is there . I am not seeing it in Sean Davis though.

I'm optimistic about Burns. No opinion of the other 2. We've seen flashes from both Burns and just recently Hargrave. Basically Hargrave looked good against the Browns and Colts. I've seen nothing of Davis to make me think he's good or bad. Our defense still needs a pass rusher, a run stuffer, and an upgrade to Mitchell. It's gonna take FA and the draft to fill those holes. Unitl then this defense still sucks.

They all show promise, much better than last years' defensive picks post Dupree.

OK, for me, in a season of disappointments and just mere misses I have to admit I like all three of these picks from what I've seen on the field. Rookie mistakes and all I like the aggressiveness they bring and fell they will only get better. Don't get me wrong they maybe our biggest weakness at the current time (LOL) but I still like much of what I see.

Hargrove in the right time and place is a wild beast and get this, I bet he's got a giant chip on that shoulder. Good Lord could it get any better? Unleash him upon the NFL!

hargraves is a beast since they have taken him from his true NT position. we will have to decide how to play this when cam comes back next year. we have the making of a really good 4-3 base available then. bud, tuitt, hargraves, cam, chick, mathews, walton, mccullers. this could be used as a decent front to mix and match. with the LB'ers we will have in shazier, williams, matakevich, fort and moats, a variation of the 4-3 is very possible. i would love to see us mix up forms of both defenses to keep offenses guessing. we have the personnel to do this. we see how putting these guys up front into different positions to succeed really works. using these guys to they're strengths has a ton of upside.

burns is looking decent and should improve even more as he plays. i'm hoping eventually that we put a guy in place opposite him that can play aggressive also. burns, gilbert and then cockrell in the slot? or some version of this.

i like how davis is starting to know his way around. his speed is helpful. i think it can eventually mesh with a new look at DB going forward. we may not be quite there yet but i think we have a good young base of becoming very good in the near future on defense. i hope the coaches are seeing what we can do and are not afraid to experiment with this new found upside these guys are showing. add a safety, corner ( maybe shabazz or golson) and OLB/DE and we may really have something going on. remember alot of guys are in year one and two right now. year two and three should be a bunch better for many of them. all of this should have the arrow pointing UP. cams injury and dupree coming back at this point may have been a blessing in disguise.

Truly amazing we are talking about three rookies starting for this Defense... and making an impact. They will only get better and be part of a dominate Defense once again. Finally moving away from the Bend don't Break style earlier in the season. That's not Pittsburgh Steeler's Defense...
