David Akers Ties NFL Record Long FG

    Anyone else watching the Packers/49ers game? David Akers just made a 63 yard field goal. It was wow-worthy.

    So it's now what? A 3 or 4 way tie?

    Could have sworn the record has been 63 yards forever now. Still a great feat, but I'm waiting for an actual break.

    I think 4 way? I can only think of 3, but I'm pretty sure it's 4. Dempsey, Elam, Akers. Can't think of who the 4th was. Morten Anderson?

    It didn't even hit the top of the crossbar, it hit more on the front of the crossbar and due to momentum and shape of the ball, bounced over anyway. Amazing. If he'd been a half an inch farther away, it would have been short.

    4 kickers have tied the 63 yard record, but two of those kickers Elam, and Janikowski kicked their 63 yarder in Denver where the air is thin and just about any kicker who plays a game in mile high adds yards to their kicks: Dempsey and Akers made their kicks without the thin air advantage, so there should be an astrick by Elam and seabass's kicks, I watched Akers kick and when it hit the upright I had my fingers crossed for it to go over, and when it did Akers had a shocked look on his face......

    While you're adding asterisks, Dempsey had a metal foot. Now, I'm not sure if he should be getting the asterisk or if the other guys should be, since I can't say for sure if that helped him or hurt him, but somebody needs an asterisk, dammit! Akers is the only flesh-footed kicker to do it at a regular altitude.

    I can't wait for someone to make a 64 yarder so none of this matters anymore.
