It could be worse.... anyone hear Adam Schefter this morning on Mike & Mike? He said he didn't see it happening in reality, but he personally thought Cutler would make perfect sense as a backup to Ben in Pittsburgh. I think I vomited in my mouth.

Schefter must be on drugs now.

    Makes no sense whatsoever.

I'd bring him in merely to be the mop up QB in the 4th pre-season game and then put him on waivers.

Well, it would be cool if our pass rushers had a live target for full-speed pass rushing practice during camp....

So the thought process was, that every year Ben gets hurt and misses a few games (usually ravens game, haha)..... And cutler's already been paid well in his career so he doesn't need the big money.... wouldn't it be better to have a starter caliper player on the bench rather than a career backup like Landry Jones? He also mentioned that Cutler should wait until later in the season when some unknown QB inevitably gets hurt, but he thought he would fit best in Pittsburgh.

That was Schefter's thought process, I don't agree with him and would never want Cutler on the team. Just wasn't sure if anyone else had heard it.

Edit: and actually it did work pretty well when we had Charlie batch, but Cutler is no charlie batch.

I take him over Landry in a heartbeat. He's far more of a security blanket. I'm not sure what happened to him but he has the arm and HAD the potential to be a top 5 QB of his era.

Hes a quitter and very overrated. He doesn't play hard when he's a starter, hate to see his half assed play as a BU.

I'll take Landry all day long and wait for Dobbs to develop.

He is a bigger turn over machine than Ben R.

I would be fine with it but only AFTER Johnny Football and Tim Tebow reject our multi million dollar advances.

Which speaks volumes about who Cutler must really be. I have no doubt that he still has a bigger arm than Landry and can make more throws then him and is an all around better athlete than him but when he can't even get on a roster that has a guy like Landry on it, who we obviously have no faith in as a long term prospect, then it speaks to what a cancer Cutler must be in the locker room. Mettenburger will probably land another gig before Cutler. There are tons of qb's that throw a lot of picks but still have jobs. Some even starters. But Cutler can't even get a job as a BACKUP on a roster that has Landry Jones and he can't even get a look from a team like Houston that if they even had a semi competent qb could maybe be a legit contender given that defense. I guess if I were him I'd slap a woman so I could regain a starting gig in Cincy. I think that might be his only hope at this point.

They just signed him to a contract, I think they have faith in him.

I think the reason that he isn't getting an offer is because most teams won't tolerate a backup QB being a distraction.

    :hmm:

Acquiring Jay Cutler defeats the purpose of drafting Joshua Dobbs all together; a slap to the fanbases face and his doubly so.

Nevermimd his inability to persevere. He does not have the leadership qualities the Steelers look for anyway.

I was meaning as a starter going forward. Hence the Dobbs pick. Even during the draft they were saying that the organization wasn't happy with Landry's growth thus far.

Well if we're being honest Cutler is probably a heck of a lot better than Jones but the steelers won't spend money on a backup QB.

The first starting QB that gets injured that team will call up cutler, and he isnt backup QB material at all:

    Touchdown Wire:
It’s important to note Cutler doesn’t have the makeup of a backup quarterback. He’s never been one before. The guy has been starting for teams since his glory days at Vanderbilt. He’s also not exactly what people would describe as a locker room guy. Backups need to be prepared, but they also need to teach, sometimes run scout teams and be ready at the drop of a hat. Maybe Cutler could transition like a MLB starting pitcher who needs to move to the bullpen, but there’s no proof he’s that type of guy.

He had the potential...... Never corrected his mechanics from the moment he came into the league. On top of which he had to learn a new offense almost every year he was with the Bears Plus the offense he had in Denver

Throws off his back foot all to often. Could not lead a team out of a maze with no turns (aka a hallway). Never had a good coach to get the best out of him. Mike Shanahan, Josh McDaniels, Lovie Smith, Marc Trestman, John Fox. None of those guys have brought any QB along before and had consistent success with them. (one year wonders don't count)
