Okay everyone, let's look at our roster. Where are we?

    QB: Ben, Lefty, Batch (3)

RB: Redman, Dwyer, Batch, Rainey (4)

    FB: Will Johnson? (1)

WR: Wallace, Brown, Cotchery, Sanders, OPEN WR SPOT (5)

TE: Miller, Pope, OPEN TE SPOT (3)

OL: Adams, Colon, Pouncey, DeCastro, Gilbert, Legursky, Foster, Essex, OPEN OT SPOT (9)

    Total Offense: 25

DL: Heyward, Hood, Keisel, McClendon, Hampton, Ta'amu, OPEN DE SPOT (7)

LB: Harrison, Foote, Timmons, Woodley, Sylvester, Spence, Carter, Worilds (8)

CB: Ike, Lewis, Allen, Brown, OPEN CB SPOT (5)

S: Troy, Clark, Mundy, OPEN S SPOT (4)

    Total Defense: 24

    Total Special Teams: 3

This Roster leaves 1 spot open yet on the roster. Just one that hasn't been identified. Is that an extra CB? an extra S due to Clark not playing first game? An extra LB? Is that spot held for Mendy?

    Thoughts?

    Mortly Ivy - 9th LBer.

I also think David Johnson sticks around, for better or for worse.

You also forgot about Wes Saunders. He;s another tricky one to know what to do with re. the final 53.

You think Ivy over Brandon Johnson? I think Ivy looks promising, but Johnson has loads of experience and isn't old. As Hack pointed out, he has as many INTs as Gay in way less playing time.

I think after last year theynwill keep an extra olb not ilb. Timmons showed he is not an olb. Also i absolutely think suanders stay on the team no way they let him gomover something stupid like that.

    Bryant DE
    Starks OT
I wouldn't be surprised to see Pope released like Gilman(er) was last year. He's not a particularly good pass catcher, not a great blocker, and apparently he's a penalty machine. If I remember correctly he and an OL were tied for most penalties, but Pope had less than half the snaps.

That's a good point. Ivy is a hope rather than a prediction at this stage. I'll be interested to see what Brandon Johnson brings to camp.

Pope is Haley's boy, I doubt he's going anywhere, he's been with him in AZ and KC so obviously Haley see's something in this guy.

they have options. if will johnson sticks at FB, they may keep only 4 WR's and 3 TE's and a FB. rainey and will johnson could be put in the slot as a WR if the need arose. rainey played a good bit of receiver at Fla.. they didn't have a problem sliding him out there at all. will johnson was also a WR, before becoming a FB/TE. that would leave heath, pope and saunders at TE.

i do think beachum makes it.

as for LB, i think johnson is kept and may shine for us. nice pickup.

    adams is a bust
starks is brought back in thank god
redmon is not a workhorse so mendy will be resigned
what we really need is a true back up quarterback because our starter is high risk on and off the field

QB(3): Big Ben, Leftwhich, Troy Smith
RB(5): Redman, Dwyer, Rainey, Batch, D.Johnson
WR(5): Wallace, Brown, Sanders, Cotchery, Tony Clemons
    TE(2): Heath, Pope
OL(9): Adams, Gilbert, Starks, Essex, Pouncey, Legursky, Colon, DeCastro, Foster

DL(6): Kiesel, Hood, Heyward, Corbin Bryant, McClendon, Ta'Amu
LB(9): Harrison, Woodley, Worilds, Carter, Timmons, Foote, Spence, Brandon Johnson, Sly
CB(5): Ike, Lewis, Brown, Allen, Terry Carter
S(5): Troy, Clark, Mundy, Rodgers-Cromartie, Myron Rolle
    ST(3): Suisham, Kapinos, Warren

    • I think spots that are wide open going into camp are the #5 spot at WR and CB, and the 4th DE spot. I like Clemons to make the team, CB I'm no so sure.

    • Keep in mind this is week 1, so I think Mendy and Casey are on PUP.

    • I have us signing Starks, if he doesn't recover put Jonathan Scott in that spot (ugh!).

    • I think we're a little shaky on the DL week 1 depending on how ready Ta'Amu looks in training camp.

    • I have us with an extra safety week 1 since Clark will be inactive.

    • Rolle, Rodgers-Cromartie, Pope, Sly, Baron Batch, David Johnson (depending on how much he's used at FB) are guys I see as possibly getting the axe when Mendy, Hampton, Saunders return.

I think on your roster you still have room for 1 more player. I only see 24 on offense, 25 on defense, and 3 ST. Either that or I'm just not counting right.

Now some other comments about the roster you have:

QB: I don't see Smith making the team in a new offense the first year. That isn't about him, it will be about Batch. Batch understands how to look at the offense and help Ben along with reads, audible, etc. Having him back for one more year, I think will be important.

RB: I think David Johnson goes bye bye. I think he will be sort of like Carey Davis was...one coach liked him, the new one didn't.

WR: That 5th spot is hard to predict. If Maze can show his value on the return side of things, potentially allowing Sanders to now have to do that at all...he may end up making the roster over Clemons. To me it is a 2 man race though.

TE: You only had 2 listed. I'm not sure what we are going to do here. Saunders suspension clouds things some. I think he may be the #2/3 in competition with Pope, but I like Paulson's tape and think he is more slippery than fast. He just knows how to get open...at least that is what his tape looks like. I think Pope, Saunders, and Paulson are all fighting for 2 spots.

OL: I think you are right. Either Starks gets brought back, or they keep the vet in Scott. Now, that being said, if they think Adams can start week 1, they might just cut Scott and keep a young kid for the cap aspect of things especially if they think they can still get Starks under contract after the first few weeks.

DL: Corbin Bryant and Al Woods are fighting for that #4 spot at DE. Igbinosun could be the sleeper here. I don't know much about him, but he is the sleeper IMO.

LB: I do think Johnson has a shot at the team for his special team abilities.

CB: That 5th and potentially 6th CB spot are wide open. This would depend upon what they do at S and at LB.

S: I don't think they carry 5 any game but game 1 maybe. I think they slide someone like Allen or Brown over into the role if they need to for one game. Mundy makes the team, but the 4th S spot is up for grabs.

seriously.. have you ever seen a steelers game.. heres my % chance of what you say really happening
adams a bust.. 30% based on his drug problem and the fact they said he tends to not finish plays.. so i put it at 30% .. that means 70% chance hes NOT a bust
starks brought back in 80% yes... thank god? not necessarily jst means they need another back up and spot starter
redman not a workhorse.. 0%.. guys is a beast .. a F ing beast... mendy may be resigned but certainly NOT because redman isnt a workhorse.. plus we got other good RBs that can spell him... hes not going ot run every play...
back up QB... well .. i think batch is great no matter his age for a game or 2.. the guy know how NOT TO LOSE.. just keep it close.. keep us in it.. dont turn the ball over.. and let us win it 10-7 in the end.. although if we coud get colt mccoy for a 6th or 7th pick im all over that .. but could we afford him? would he be an expensive back up... then i keep batch . release lefty..
