I wouldn't draft the guy anyways. I would be way less than happy with OG at 22... But he wasn't even in the same state when it happened? I didn't get too many details, but what I read looked there was zero implication of Collins for any wrongdoing at all.

He did not come off my board....he actually went on it. This guy is almost undraftable with this hanging over his head. Certainly not early....But I would totally draft him in 6 or 7....If he goes to jail...eh...I gambled and lost....if he is proven innocent...I get a 1st rounder in round 7? I gambled and won BIG BIG BIG.

If he were available in the 6th or 7th, I couldn't say no. Nice to see you, Hack.

His agent is trying get him removed from the Draft and have him eligible for the supplemental draft.

I'd take him way before that. Half our 4th rounders don't pan out at all anyway.

Who are your guys this year, Hack? Do you have any, "Trade every single pick for these two guys and go home" types, like Manti Te'o and David Amerson?

I read somewhere over the last 10 years 50% of the second rounders in the NFL didn't pan out , and 40% of the first.

I would think that % goes up each round...remember the average NFL career is still just 3 years.....and when you consider that most "starters" go 8 to 10 years that means the bottom of the roster is in constant turnover...... more guys are done in the first year for the average to = 3 years

So say there's an 80% chance Collins works out as a player (seems very safe to me as a guard). What are the chances this murder thing comes back to him and he can't play? I'd probably put it in the single digits.

Unless the teams know more than me about his situation, I don't think he makes it out of the 2nd round.

Yeah, no way he's on the board 3rd round. I'd still take him in the first if I wanted him.

Cops aren't going to sit around for the draft to end to begin their homicide investigation. If someone has info (like Collins) they need it ASAP.

He's arguably the best OL from this class. Missing on draft picks isn't as impactful (for better or worse) as hitting on one.

:this!: Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if he still went around where he was originally slated to go. I definitely wouldn't be surprised to see him go towards the end of the first. There are teams back there that never thought they'd have a chance. They might just be thrilled to see him fall in their laps.

Hell, Baltimore might try and trade up for him now.

The police say he is not a suspect....but he is most certainly a suspect......whenever a person is murdered....their significant other is the #1 suspect until proven otherwise.

If he was not there....which is a fact from what I have read.....then he would have nothing for the police to interview him with.....outside of the "you know anyone who would want to harm her?" This is obviously more than that. They have found something somewhere to make them think he may know something more about what went down......maybe he was involved...maybe he wasnt...but the police think he can help shed some light on something.......even if its just to confirm that he is innocent and move on.

I just dont see how you can draft a player that early when there is a 9% chance he goes to jail for murder.......remember...thats a full 9% more likely than any other 2nd rounder you could draft.

That's a lot of certainty for someone that doesn't actually know any of that. My take is that he was close to her at some point, and so they need to talk to him right away. He's not a suspect of physically doing it because he wasn't there. I suppose he could have hired someone, if he wanted to be some type of Shane - Ray - Lewis hybrid.

What's the difference between your draft pick going to jail and sucking as a player? It's not like it's worse for the field. I'll take a guy with a 25% chance of getting eaten by a shark before I take a guy with a 26% chance of being terrible. And if we're talking about a guy with a 9% chance of not playing but 80% chance of being awesome vs. some other 2nd rounder with a 50% chance of not even helping your team, then it's not even close!

Maybe I worded it poorly. It is obviously more than just a quick question......the "they have found something" was probably worded strongly....it could be just due diligence.

my point on the % is both guy A and B could be 26% terrible.....but then I still have to take into consideration that guy A also lives in a pineapple under the sea and is married to a great white shark....and he has a 25% chance of being eaten by her....plus the 26% chance of being terrible.

Guess we will see....I see all the time that player A has been taken completely off a teams draft board for a DUI or for failing a POT test.....pretty sure possible murder might be as bad as pot usage to some teams......BUT...it only takes one team to be in love to draft a guy early.

:lolol: And my point is that whatever percentage of bad things coming from this murder you assign (let's stick with 9% for now) should absolutely be factored in. However, Collins is not your typical 2nd or 3rd round draft pick. He's a lot safer than those guys, which is why he was slated as a top 15 pick a week ago. So he and player B do NOT share a 26% chance of being terrible. His chances are much, much less than that... particularly because he's not just a more highly touted player, but he's one of the safe variety. He's not a boom/bust type, at least in my opinion. So even factoring in that 9%, he still beats out a ton of guys.

The NFL has denied his request to be removed from the draft. This will be interesting.

Let's not forget the PR associated with drafting him before he's exonerated. The NFL has taken a strong stance against domestic violence. IF he had any involvement in the murder of a pregnant ex-girlfriend... well, that's about as violent as domestic violence gets. The team that drafts him has to explain to its fan base why they feel it's OK to take a chance on him while that possibility exists. I think it's easy to explain tossing a 6th rounder at him as a flyer, but any pick that's announced live in prime time generates instant news that goes beyond just NFL fans. "Team X drafts player who is wanted for questioning in the murder of his pregnant ex-girlfriend." Not good PR.

Listening to the radio today, it seems much more urgent than yesterday. I wonder if the police want a blood test to see if he is the father. Like someone said earlier the police will not wait for Collins to be done with the draft.

Schefter tweeted that a bunch of teams removed him from their boards entirely.

Unfortunately that definitely 100% includes us because ownership believes in that "Steeler way" nonsense.

I definitely gamble round 5-7 on this guy, upside is so worth it.

I agree with what Hack said. There may be a reason cops want to speak to him. Now, he will suffer due to not being able to pull out of the draft, which would have been a new trend for lots of guys in bad pre draft situations. We have bombed on 5th rounders before and several lately, so is he worth a 5th ? ABSOLUTELY HE IS! What do you lose if he never plays? For us that's every year with those picks.
