To the Chargers for kicking out butts at our house. And again the wonderful Steelers take a poor playing opponent lightly and get beat. Our team is suppose to be the #1 defense in what league???????? They can't defend against anyone who throws the ball, let the opposing team march down the field and give them a field-goal, they cause no turnovers. So my question is who determines the #1 defense in football because it is not this team. Remember a few year back when we won two SB's with Ben and everyone including myself said get but this was not Tomlin's team. Now we see Tomlin's team in action. No discipline, bad coaching and decision making. It will be awhile before we see another SB.

It isn't a decision by anyone, it's a number. The best defense = the team that gives up the fewest yards.

That said, there is no way that the fewest yards allowed means the defense is the best. Yards don't win games, points do.

Without looking at numbers, before todays game, I thought this defense was playing worthy of a #1 ranking. But today an old problem reared it's ugly head, couldn't get off the field on 3rd down. Whether it was dinking and dunking for a 1st or rambling off a 13 yard run for a first or giving up a fake punt (ok, thats special teams) but you get the drift. I think a big part of the problem today was the defense was gassed, how many 3 and outs did the offense have today? Bad game all around but at least Ben got his feet wet again and hopefully we will go take care of business in Dallas next week.

doesnt help when the defense gives up a 1st down on 12 of 22 3rd downs. plus a 17 play, 9min plus TD drive.

It certainly doesn't. That drive to start the 3rd quarter made me think of when we used to do that to opponents.

We actually did- in the 2008 season divisional playoff against these same Chargers, when we had the ball almost the entire 3rd quarter.

We've had a few drives like that this year. Since Ben went down this entire team has changed, despite getting him back today.

The defense was on the field most of the first half. That equals a bad finish. WR's dropped passes that would have kept drives alive and our field position well thats the worst I can ever remember. Tomlins decision to go for it on 4th and one with our line and lack of run game, that was a good call at heart but bad execution. Therefore Tomlin should have known that the line couldnt get it and he should have punted. That was the fork I beleive because the Chargers took control and never looked back.

Our defense is fixable but they need help too.
