Yes, it's easier when you have Brady, but winning six Super Bowls in 19 years is very hard to do, even with an all-time great player like Brady.Also, we mustn't forget that Brady wasn't the QB he became in his first two or three Super Bowls. He was still a very good QB, but not dominant. In 2001, he only had three TD passes in their final eight games, including the playoffs.

For Tomlin, his career is far from over, but it will be important for him to prove he's capable of developing a young franchise QB. That will be a major key for him.

 

Since 1970 the Steelers have averaged a SB appearance about every 7 years. But it's clearly not uniformly distributed. They are clustered around the starting QB at the time. It is also very influenced by the opponent QBs in the playoffs at the time. (If not for Brady, I suspect Roethlisberger might have gotten another ring or two.)

Yea, you'll get the occasional upset appearances. Like the Steelers making it to the SB with O'Donnell. But his play was very pedestrian in the postseason and really depended on the defense. They had to beat Kelly, who was terrible in the playoff. Then they had Harbaugh to beat. It was a back and forth game that was decided in the 4th quarter.

The AFC now is littered with some very good QB talent so the road to the SB is a lot harder without a complete team. For the Steelers to make it, it feels more like an O'Donnell season (i.e lucky breaks) than a Roethlisberger one.

No, but that was the whole reason I was trying to get people to bet me last year, because everyone says they know for a fact things that they won't put their money where their mouths are. I was trying to prove a point that no matter what they say, they truly deep down don't believe it.....
