Yes, it's over a year away. It just dawned on me that the Steelers should have quite a few extra draft picks next year. We should get at least an extra 3rd for Wallace. If someone throws big money at Lewis that could net us another solid draft pick as well. We also have
    Mendy 4-5th?
    Foster 6-7th?
    Starks 7th?

Anyone else leaving via free agency?

Mundy, Allen, Lefty, Legursky, Pope, Batch, Hampton, Warren, Foote, Brandon Johnson and Burress also pop into mind, although if they are not signed by someone else I don't think it helps us. I'm not really savvy to the specifics of how comp picks are determined, but I believe that the total number of comp picks will be limited to the net number of free agents that we lose. Therefore, if we lose 6 unrestricted free agents and sign 3, we would get a max of 3. I could be wrong though. I also don't know if there's a cap on how many comp picks a team can be awarded.

They should get a 3rd for Mendenhall if he leaves he was a first round pick.

I don't think the round the player was drafted in matters. I'm pretty sure it's primarily based on the value of the new contract.

Exactly...its based on things like the contract they sign, playing time, etc.

Wouldn't the signing of Pope negate the loss of Gay? That signing still pisses me off. Why the @#$% did they sign a worthless sack of pooh like Pope and release Saunders?

I don't think so. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I believe that we had a net loss of at least 1 unrestricted free agent last year, and that's why the guy who is very accurate projecting comp picks has us getting a 7th.

Pope and Gay in the same sentence?? Talk about a lockerroom in disarray.
i wouldn't mind Gay and Pope can stay, because next year we draft Ebron TE UNC

There's no way of knowing right now. Wallace should fetch a 3rd because he's going to get a massive payday. My guess would be a 4th for Lewis... I'm speculating on them because we know they'll get decent money and start where ever they go as long as they're healthy.

Mendenhall I would say is probably a 5th at best. He'll get a pretty modest contract, and likely be part of a RBBC somewhere. Foster maybe a 6th if he ends up starting somewhere.
