OK, so I'm thinking that this O-line needs more reps. What's stopping them from getting together and throwing pads on themselves to run through some drills on their own?

Isn't that what most of us would do if we had a team at work that wasn't clicking and needed some practice so we can continue to get paid?

Not really sure how it works but considering the players are the ones who negotiated that in to the CBA, I don't see them going out and voluntarily doing more practice.

Yeah I was saying during preseason that the CBA is really what ties the hands of coaches because the players are under the union contract. I'm sure back in the day a coach could make you run suicides til you puked your guts out but now they're not allowed to do that. That's why I actually am a lot more merciful to Tomlin because there's really not a lot he can do about that. UPS is a union job and and it's a double edged sword because since technically UPS can't set a quota of what you have to do and your raises are based on contracts and not merit all you really have to do is just show up and you're gonna get a raise just because the company and the teamsters came to an agreement. So some people really abuse that and are lazier than crap because they have no incentive to actually perform since the company has to give them a raise and they're getting paid by the hour. I think the NFL is like that to an extent. I think all of the guys want to produce ON the field but I think it's a VAST few that really apply themselves OFF the field and I think you can tell the difference between the two. Look at Jerry Rice's work ethic. Look at Peyton Manning's work ethic. Look at Tom Brady's work ethic. NO coach can give someone a good work ethic. You either have it or you don't and you can tell who does and who doesn't. So I would say the CBA DEFINITELY plays a huge role in what a coach can do.

They do it in the off season. Not sure how much time there is during the season. Sounds good though.

Yep, that new CBA was going to cut down on player injuries. I think I heard the other day that there are more players on IR now than in the history of the game (or at least in a long time). Seems to be working well.

Plus, I don't know what the liability will be practicing away from the facility. I know players workout out on their own but if they get hurt outside of the traditional season it could be some financial issues.

I agree the CBA has gone way too far in this regard. I also believe that there are more injuries because of the lack of preparation/conditioning/just getting tough.

You know the addage - thou play how you practice.

Chuck Noll once said "if I have to give you a motivational speech, I'll fire you"

He'd probably fire most of the NFL these days ...

The CBA has NOTHING to do with it! EVERY team lives by the same CBA, yet we continue to have one of the worst o-lines in the league, year in and year out! Most of the O-line guys just aren't that good, let's face it! I'm sure it's been talked about a ton already, but will someone please explain to me what the $%$ DeCastro was doing blocking Pouncey? Stupid, stupid, stupid. Heck if DeCastro would of actually blocked the Titan down low like I know he said he was trying to do, then guess what, that's a fricken 15 yard penalty for chop blocking since Pouncey had his man engaged in the play! And he went to Stanford? WOW, just WOW!

I think the owners need to go back and tell the players they need practice. This BS we see on the field is nothing more than lack of reps, AKA Pay me big bucks so I can suck and charge fans big bucks to see me suck

Actually it would have been a legal chop block.

at first I thought it was illegal too but that is true about the guy next to them, which is crazy, but it's the rule.

I have seen something that concern's me about DD though. steelers depot had some footage of the sacks on ben and in one of them DD went to his right to double with gilbert which had his man blocked and basicly hit them so hard it knocked gilbert off the block and then went to the left where beachum had his man blocked and hit beachum knocking him off his block.

yes that's his job but you have to learn to hit the defensive man and allow your teammate to sustain that block or your helping the defense, which it did. it is so much easier to move a guy from the side then straight on. he was good example of that. though I will say DD, is cracking people. if you are going to help though , don't hinder. he's got to learn to hit the targets in the right place.
