Okay, it is obvious that sooner rather than later, something is going to have to change about our D. How strange is this to say, but other than the fact that we still can't run the ball and we turned it over a couple of times, there really isn't much we can complain about on offense? So let's look at the defense in the coming offseason...

    1. Defensive Ends....Keisel is done. He has finally hit the end and it just snuck up on us. 2 solo and 4 assisted tackles in 3 games. That is it! Time for Heyward to get some minutes here. It just is. Hood hasn't been much better, but I still think he is playing okay. Keisel is just getting knocked off the ball too easily.

Cut Keisel....move Bryant to the big squad as a backup along with Woods.

    2. Nose Tackle....we all know that this is Hampton's last year. We MUST get McLendon some playing time. He was one of the best players in the preseason against the other starters, yet we can't find a place on the field for him?

    Do Not resign Hampton....

    3. Outside Linebacker....Woodley, Carter, and Worlilds have been very blah. To me this is THE largest issue when it comes to this D. Woodley isn't earning his money right now from my perspective. Harrison may be done. It would not surprise me if he NEVER is the player we all know and love. I think this is his last year.

Cut Harrison....give Robinson a chance with some snaps. (I find it interesting that we had them in an obvious passing situation yesterday and yet Robinson, the one trick pony, hasn't had a shot to actually perform his trick....not once. I want to see what the kid has)

    4. Inside Linebacker.... what a mess this position is. Timmons has underperformed. Foote just sucks. Spence who we all had high hopes for isn't playing this year. Sylvester has been out injured. Him getting back IMO is huge. If he can't beat out Foote for some snaps, he shouldn't be on the team. We miss Farrior badly, not due to his ability any more, but his ability to not do crap on the field. He was almost always in the right place.

Do not resign Foote....Draft 1, maybe 2 ILBs. At one point this was not my number 1 position of need in the draft, but it has moved up. We can't stop the run...wonder why? We don't have anyone like Kirkland or Farrior who can actually do it. I understand why we skipped on Hightower, DeCastro was just too good to pass up, but we need a guy now.

    5. CB...I really don't see the need for any changes here. The coverage has not been bad because the guys suck, it has been bad because we NEVER get to the QB....and I mean NEVER. I like our 5 guys, but want to see Brown and the new guy get some snaps in games where it can be afforded. If we get in a blowout, rest Ike and let's see the others. I think that is important.

    6. Safety....Clark is huge to this team as is Troy. Mundy knows the D which is the ONLY thing working in his favor right now. Let's go out and get some guys who can play, pure and simple.

Let Allen and Mundy go....replace through draft for 1 and a smart UFA signing for the other.

Does anyone else find it interesting that we talked about how the D would need to lead for the first part of the year while the O got comfortable? Ironic huh?

I don't buy into the label that we're old and slow the national media pinned on us. It's that our younger guys on defense who cannot perform on the same level as our older defensive players so it puts pressure on them to make plays. Last night I started to think about our past drafts and schemes; whether or not players like Hood are more productive from a scheme like a 4-3. Are the players that Tomlin drafted on defense since he started, are these players better 4-3 players? Timmons? Hood? Woodly? Did Tomlin draft these players and with any intent that he would be switching when Lebeau retired?

I read a thread somewhere here about switching to a 4-3 and it was Steel Hack that said if Tomlin had any intent about switching to a 4-3 that he would have already put packages in by now and used both 3-4 and 4-3 so maybe this isn't the case. If he drafted these players to be productive in the 3-4 scheme then it looks like right now we have drafted poorly overall with the execption of Woodley (Heyward I think will pan out).

they didn't keep bryant even on the PS.

golden and vandyke need some field time.

MOO should be playing instead of casey. mclendon needs to start. MOO the backup.

heyward needs to start with keisel. woods needs some more field time too.

johnson needs to play more at ilb.
