It doesn't change the fact that Witherspoon sucks .

9 CBs, 3 DB,s 7 Safeties as of today. Those 19 will probably be down to 10 by opening day.

It wasn't just the completion percentage. He was the victim of one big play after another. His misplayed the deep ball against the Patriots that Agholor turned into a touchdown. A.J. Brown absolutely humiliated him in the loss to the Eagles. Maybe he was already hurting for those games, but his poor play was a big part of those defeats.

i said he had a bad season last year. don't know when the hammy issues started but it was not good. 2021 he had a pretty good year for us though. if he could get back to that he may be worth keeping around. if not his money savings could go elsewhere.

players have bad seasons from time to time. minkah gave up 5 TD's last year and all these contribute to losses too. doesn't mean he's not good. bad matchups, bad games, it happens to the best of them. play from the front effects the backend as well.

the slot play will be huge this year for us. injuries are the killer to most DB's. lingering injuries can kill a season. this i hope we can limit for the year and we should have a pretty good year from the team they have assembled. package matchups will be huge and will be an ongoing process i believe during the preseason. package combo's have to be meshed. that will be something to watch as they go.

with our front healthy our DB's could/will have a good year. injuries can really kill what they are trying to do, as we saw. depth is an issue on the edge but we really can't expect a backup to play like TJ. it would be nice but not feasible.

Yeah that Mac Jones pass to Agholor was a duck that should have been picked off. Instead he let Agholor rip it out of his hands for a TD. The Pats only scored 2 TD's in that game the pass that Witherspoon whiffed on and the other one was on Gunner's fumbled punt.

Fitzpatrick did have a few killer mistakes, but he also made quite a few great plays last year. It is damn difficult for him to be perfect with all that they ask of him.

Witherspoon, on the other hand, just sucked. I wasn't really arguing with you, just pointing out that it was the big plays as much as the completion percentage allowed that hurt. He was decent late in 2021, but I'm not sure where he fits. Peterson, Wallace, and Porter have to be ahead of him on the outside. Sullivan and Maulet are ahead of him in the slot. Pierre has shown more as a special teamer. Trice seems like a strong candidate to make the team, too. That is seven cornerbacks. Maybe he beats out Maulet or Pierre, but that's far from a sure thing.

i wasn't arguing either. just discussing different aspects of these guys. having him around through the preseason helps keep other healthy. we lost kazee in preseason last year and i'd hate to see something like that again.

i like pierre and think he could make a better jump even from last year. he is an outside corner. i'm not sure if witherspoon can play the slot or not but having a second or third guy that can, may be crucial.

sullivan will most likely get one of those spots. maulet didn't play too bad for us but i expect them to use kazee in that role if a team goes 4 wide against us. i'm not sure how they will use these guys yet in each package. i'm not sure they know quite yet either.

bodies on the field in preseason will keep our main 10 guys healthier. that was why i wouldn't get rid of witherspoon just yet. i know the rookies will play more to get up to speed. madre harper has had some write ups about him. waiting to see what he brings or where he fits. i like elijah riley as well and think this kid could be a diamond in the rough. i'm seeing a lot of not pigeon holing guys with distinct positions and more of a who can do more for us scenario. we shall see.

    i saw this today.

Come on. You can't compare Minkah with Witherspoon. One has to cover up for most of our D, and the other just has one man to cover most the time.

i'm not comparing the two. just saying how many people fault a guy for giving up a couple of TD's and he sucks and one that gives up 5 and he's great. there is a fine line as to one causing defeats and one that those TD's didn't matter in said defeats. sure most players would be great if the players around them just played better. witherspoon 2 years ago played pretty well that's all. he was hurt last year and had by far his worst year in the league. one year doesn't mean the guy just sucks.

I'm not a fan of counting on Neal due to his history of injuries, but I assume they want a bigger safety to take on a role similar to what Edmunds played the last few years. If Neal plays well, we may see some of those three-safety sets they used later last season after Kazee returned.

I think Kazee will end up playing most of the snaps if he is healthy. I would certainly rather have him out there in passing situations.

I think Porter Jr. and Trice are known as good press CBs.

Witherspoon was the one getting cooked by AJ Brown last season I think?

Was it more man coverage, less zone? I recall him making interceptions in zone with the play in front of him in 2021.

Yup, for at least two of the touchdowns if I remember correctly.
