According to a reporter from the Houston Chronicle, CB Stanford Routt is scheduled to workout for the Steelers after a workout with the Texans. This may be an indicator of the severity of Ike's injury.

I thought he came with a hefty dollar amount attached to him and that was why there wasn't a huge interest in him when he was cut by the Chiefs

I wouldn't necessarily say that... Brown played pretty well on Sunday IMO. I think they just need some depth and experience. I thought they would bring Victorian back to the PS.

I'm still pulling for Curtis Brown, although from day one Cortez was a head of him...I really haven't heard any media guys really talk about Brown at all, I would like to know what the coaches really do think of him. He is good on special teams at least....

That Routt guy sounds familiar...I seem to recall him playing in a game and doing pretty well, but I can't recall where that was?

How do we sign guys when we have such cap issues. I would have thought Plex depleted the account...?

At last check, we were almost 2 million under cap. Since salaries are paid weekly, Plax's contract only counted for approximately a $350,000 cap hit this year.

Ike's injury could turn out to be a blessing for Cortez Allen. He's had long enough to prepare, so now is the time to shine. I'm really hoping he proves to be one of the season's biggest surprises (alongside Dwyer).

I would suspect Routt comes in at nickel or dime maybe? I'm not familiar with his skill set.

I worry about 2 things I have read about him....

    1. Didn't want to play physical
    2. Doesn't like to tackle

Now that doesn't mean he can't be a good corner for us, but these are some concerns for sure.

Demarcus Van Dyke and him would be fighting for the nickel coverage corner position. Dyke is an outside corner much like Brown and Lewis, so you would hope that Routt could play the slot for us along with Allen when teams go 4 wide.

I like it.. Kick the tires and inquire about his desire and willingness to plat for a contender.. He has the skillset to be very good and with a strong leadership presence in the lockerroom could be a pleasant surprise.

I'd like it too... but my guess is he goes with Houston, he's a Texas native.

Good point that I hadn't considered.. I imagine that his agent will steer him where he thinks Routt will play more rather than location however.

He's 29 which is ok. The Raiders released him iin Feb. but honestly they're idiots anyway. The chiefs sign him to a 3yr 18 mil deal and and Crennel steps down as DC and names LB Coach Gibbs new DC he is de-activated then released. He's had 1 forced fumble and 2 int's this year so far. He had a workout with the Lions and they didn't sign him.

Since Ike has a broken ankle that leaves us with Lewis and Allen starting and Brown at nickel. Van Dyke is on the roster but he's as young as brown and not in this system very long.

Look for us to sign Routt as an emergency back-up and 4th/5th corner. I see OG Malecki getting cut and re-signed back to the PS after he clears waivers since we lost OG Lee off the PS.

Well, according to Jason La Canfora, he'll be signing with the Texans.

I had a feeling that with the news breaking he was coming to Pittsburgh (an AFC foe for the Texans) they would do what they could to sign him (as long as he worked out well/etc of course).

Who else might be out there of worth?

why not van dyke? he at least has starting and playing time under his belt. brown doesn't have near as much. we also have a full compliment of safeties that could play (5). golden also played alot of cb in college.

these guys should be alot more ready then they are at this point in the season. something is wrong when all of our backups are not prepared to step in. even the older vets. why are these guys not getting some reps during the week? stay a half hour longer and use them. not that hard to do. we used to be so good at bringing along young players. that is not the case anymore it sure seems.

Well, you've got Demarcus Van Dyke and they could always bring Josh Victorian back in. I have no idea who they might look at from the outside. Alphonso Smith is out there. It was mentioned in today's press conference that they'd be working out some DB's, but who knows...Routt surprised me a little bit.
