Big Ben....or is he one of a kind in his uniqueness? So, do we start looking for his replacement or his clone?
Is he the qb version of Troy?
Every other elite qb right now ...has his own uniqueness...But I do believe that another field general(manning) will come along...the system qb (brady)...scrappy undersized qb(brees)...oh and even ol blues (rodgers)...
The list goes on and on....BUT, WHAT ABOUT BEN? CAN HIS UNIQUENESS BE DUPLICATED?!

Ben is old school. He plays qb like a linebacker. We are lucky to have him and Hines Ward before that. I wish Ben would have played in the 1980's. The Steelers would have won all ten Super Bowls that decade with a qb like Ben. Unfortunately, the game has changed. It's arena style now and I don't see old school coming back. In answer to your question, no there will be no more like him. Even if someone has the natural aptitude and attributes, they will not experience football in a way that conditions them to train and think in that fashion.

There haven't been to many NFL QB's that play like Ben does.
Maybe Frank Tarkenton for the Vikings back in the day.

Ben might go down as being one of the toughest QB's to bring down of all time.

Ben is one in a million in the way he plays QB. I doubt we will ever have another one like him.

Yeah, he reminds me a bit of Tarkenton as well.

I doubt we'll find another gunslinger (and I know Ben doesn't like that term) in his mould. Our best strategy would be to make sure we have a solid line, and then rebuild the playbook around whatever the strengths are of the guy we end up getting. My guess is we'll see a few game managing QBs before we see the next Ben in black and gold, though.

I remember hearing one of the talking heads, a couple of weeks ago, comparing one of the newer QBs to Ben. Can't remember who it was. Carr maybe? anyway, I don't think there will be anyone else just like Ben. Just as there is only one Marino, Elway, Favre, Montana (sorry Cheatriot fans, Brady's not fit to carry Montana's jock)

I say Ben is the closest thing to Elway that has been since Elway. He has the toughness of Favre and the pure competitive grit of Elway. I may be the only person that thinks he is sorta like Elway but I don't care. I'm allowed to think what I want. LOL!:beee:

I don't agree at all with the Elway comparison but Favre is spot on.

The reason I say that is because I could just see Ben sacrificing himself to win it all the way Elway did in that Super Bowl. He also takes a lot more care of the football than Favre did. He doesn't throw it as hard but he definitely makes better decisions overall. He's just a "winner" and doesn't always do it the pretty way.

Except that, early in his career, Elway was a bit of a spoiled brat.

Did Ben refuse to go to the team that drafted him? No. Did Ben belittle teammates? Not that I recall.......

Well Hines has really raked Ben's early career over the coals and also he rode that motorcycle with reckless abandon as well. Not to mention the rendezvous with college girls. His early career was more marred with off the field stuff. From what I understand, the whole thing about Elway refusing in the draft was more about his dad. Both greatly matured and became great leaders.

Bens Off-field "problems" were just that. Off-field. I don't recall Ben throwing the ball at 100 mph and whine at his receivers for not catching them. I agree that they both matured and became good team mates. Right now, the closest whiny crybaby, er..... fiery competitor to Elway, IMO, is Phillip Rivers.

Perhaps it was Bortels. This was my post on 10-26-13......

We know Bens not going to be around forever and L.Jones is not our future so...

What do you guys think about us giving Blake Bortles from UCF a good long look? This kid came on my radar when he played PSU earlier this year. Watched a few of his games since and I am very impressed. Watching him today against UCONN (I know but you can only beat who they put in front of you) 19/23 with one drop 225 YDs 3 TDs 0 INTs and its only halftime. Looked up his sophomore stats was 25 TDs 7 INTs. This year he is 14/3 including todays game. So doesnt throw a lot of INTs.

Reminds me of our #7 6.4 230. Moves in the pocket like Ben.I like this kid!!

Update....Just threw a 61 yd TD on their fist poss.Actually was about a 8 yard swing that WR turned into a 61 yd TD. Still goes to Bortles stats. And they pulled him hes done for the day.

Their interception % really isn't that far apart. They're both around 3%, although Ben definitely has the better numbers in that regard. I think Favre is a pretty good comparison. Ben is absolutely a gunslinger, even though he can be deadly when he executes a short passing game. Both guys love to take shots down the field.

I personally don't find Ben to be a very unique QB these days. For the most part, he stands in the pocket and chucks the rock around the field like most other pocket QB's. The difference is he's hard to bring down when the rush gets to him.

I can see why so many call him old school though because of his toughness and willingness to get out there and take a hit or lay a block and play through extreme pain. He also doesn't seem to get as many flags as the more finesse guys do too. I think that contributes to it as well.

We might have to wait for Ben, Jr. before we see another QB like Ben. Geesh, I can't even imagine what the game will be like at that time.

I watched Tarkenton play his whole career, he had nothing in common with Ben, he was a scrambler who was very mobile because he never weighed more than 188 pounds.............
