This whole social media thing has gotten out of hand. It has become a huge distraction for the team and it should end. As members of the Pittsburgh Steelers, the players have a responsibility to hold to certain standards on social media. Unfortunately, Players do not always adhere to those standards. Therefore, it is up to the Steelers to put the necessary restrictions on what players can post. If players want to post about upcoming charitable events, their families, their pets, their hobbies, outings with other teammates, Etc, that should all be well and good. They have a right to post about such things. However, when Tweets on Twitter, and other social media outlets are critical of the team, the coaches, other players (even if they are on opposing teams), and members of the press (no matter what has been written, or said), there should be consequences for the player posting the statement(s). The consequences should include fines, suspensions, and even release from the team, in extreme circumstances. Perhaps, at the beginning of training camp, every player that puts on a Steelers uniform should sign a binding agreement, accepting the social media restrictions, put forward by the team. If a player refuses to sign, he gets shown the door. The question is, can the Steelers do this? Can the Steelers put social media restrictions on the players, or would legal issues prevent them from doing that?

Many coaches have done so in the past, but Mike tomlin's biggest weakness has always been his inability to instill discipline

Workplaces have the right to ban personal phones in places where sensitive information is discussed. I bet the Steelers could enforce that if they felt they had to.
