I think having our majority of NFC East teams early in the season was a good thing. Besides the Eagles, anyone can win that divison.
The Ravens have RG3 and the skins this weekend. The still have the Gaints as well. The Bengals play the Cowboys this weekend.

Steelers have to take care of their business, but maybe just maybe. If the Ravens lose to the Skins, Gaints, and Broncos. We can still win this divison.

I'm predicting an RG3 skins win over Baltimore this weekend.

    Thoughts?

While that would be awesome I just don't see the ravens dropping all 3 of those games.

omg this is the first post of yours i have ever agreed with... i guess 1 out of 479 isnt too bad....we will NOT win the division.. .we need to worry about the bengals and just making the playoffs.. but if we go to denver and dont have clark (even if ike is back) we will lose without ryan as we always do

I think it was a good thing that the Giants lost to the Redskins last night. It gives them both something to play for so maybe they play better against the ratbirds.

I think the Ravens dropping those 3 games is a strong possibility.

Does Baltimore own the tie breaker? Can't they just lose 2 of those games? I know that means us winning out but if we tie the Ravens, who gets the tie breaker?

At this point, the first tie-breaker that would matter to us would be the common games one; and we are currently losing that battle. These next 4 games (for each team) could tip the balance either way.

all 4 games left for both the Ravens and the Steelers are common games. Right now the Ravens are up 2 games overall and 2 games in the common game tie breaker. A tie in overall record will also tie common games. The best the Steelers can do is a tie in division record. Steelers would lose the AFC conf tie breaker. The Ravens only have 2 conf losses with only 1 more possible.. Steelers already have 5 conf losses. The only way the Steelers top the Ravens, is if its in overall record and NOT a tie.

I am more interested in whether the Steelers will win their next game against San Diego. The Steelers have trouble against weaker teams (like SD).

I saw this logic on the other thread. What about divisional record? The Rats have to lose to Bengals or they have better division record if tied.

I only worry what the Steelers do, they control there own
destiny, and I fully expect them to sweep their next 4 games.

Correct - I was just saying that the only tie-breaker that matters is beyond head-to-head (tied) or divisional (worst for them 4-2, best for us 4-2 - so another tie)

    #1 head to head.... split
#2 division .... Best the Steelers can do is a tie
#3 common games... best the Steelers can do is a tie
#4 conf... Ravens are 8-2 and the worst they can be is 8-4.. Steelers already have 5 AFC losses.. Ravens have already clinched this tie breaker.

Steelers can not with the division if there is a 2 way tie with the Ravens.

Ravens win the tie breaker, even if its a 3 way tie between the Steelers, Bengals, and the Ravens.

Common games - right now, BALT is 7-1 and we are 6-4. If BALT splits their final four, that makes them 9-3 against common. If we win out, we are 10-4. By percentage, then they win .750 to .714. So it stops at common games actually if we tie.

So in essence, you're correct. Which sorta sux - win more games, lose the tie-breaker.

all teams in the division play the same number of common games(12). Both teams have played 8 so far. Ravens are at 7-1 and the Steelers are at 5-3 right now. All 4 games remaining for both teams are 100% common for both.. The common games are.. AFC West(4), NFC East(4), Bengals(2), Browns(2).

If the over-all record for the Steelers and the Ravens are tied.. the common games will also be tied

Am I right about this? I was thinking they said this during the game tonight. All of the teams that are ahead of us are gonna play eachother. That is a really good thing I think because they are gonna be giving everything they got and maybe it will take a toll on them and help us out. I would obviously LOVE to see the Skins beat the Rats though. I really hope there's a way that we can get out of going to Denver though. In order for us to be the number one D we HAVE to have Ryan Clark. If Ryan Clark was in that game last year we would have won it I think.

I agree Ryan Clark is one of the best players we have on D.
I also just read that he missed both practices this week. Wit a hip injury, I think.
Hope we have him against S.D.
Typically, Tomlin doesn`t play players who don`t practice.
Some exceptions are made for veterans, and hopefully this will be the case for Clark. I haven`t read anywhere, that he is definitely out.
    Edit... P.s. ,
I am still extremely worried about winding up tied with Cincy, going into the final week of the season.
I would definitely not put it past Balt., to "rest their starters", and lay down, to give Cincy the win.
Hopefully, we beat Cincy to begin with, and it hopefully shouldn`t matter...
Or Balt needs the win to get homefield advntage thru out...
Gonna be an interesting final month...
All I know, is if we win every game, we`re in, no matter what!!!:steelflag:

Did you find that Guiness Foreign, again, and enjoy it to excess, before this post?!:roflmao:
Just messin with ya, but I HIGHLY doubt they lose all three.
1 or 2, maybe, but all three is extremely unlikely, to me...
Anything`s POSSIBLE, tho. That`s why they play the games...
Never thought we would give up 8 turnovers, and lose to the Clowns... either..

After watching the Ravens play us twice (we outplayed them both times without Big Ben), and seeing them play the Chargers in person (I live in SoCal), I can not understand how they have such a good record. That team is way out of sinc on offense and average at best on defense. San Diego should have totally hammered them, but packed it in the middle of the 3rd quarter (and SD is playing like dirt right now). We were struggling mightily, but beat them once and beat ourselves the other time. They are reeling right now and could very well lose 3 of their last 4 games. I would put the chances of us running the table pretty even with them losing 3 of the next 4 games. If our offense doesn't turn the ball over and giftwrap points (like the past month), we should be able to win out. The only game I'm a little worried about is the Bengals game because it's a huge division game with a lot on the line. Good thing the Bengals usually choke in the big ones!
