Maybe a lame footnote but if Joseph gets activated I have to imagine that draftwise..the starting defense has the most Blue Chip (Rounds 1-4) in their history.

Again...I know its sorta irrelevant and not making a point but just an observation.

There are a couple of UDFA sprinkled in as backups and I am sure there a serial cellar dwellers that can say the same thing in the NFL.

Hopefully the Steelers begin to draft DBs with the same formula as WRs. lol

For some reason our scouts have just had a better go of evaluating talent at the WR spot than in the secondary for a while. They've also done a great job at scouting the OL position for late round and undrafted talent. Same for the DL really. There is a reason why our secondary has the weakest depth on our team... scouting has just been below par for that position.

Its nice to have a lot of highly drafted players, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

maybe draft wise over time but the scouting department changed too. we have been successful lately at bringing in talent. pierre, gilbert, stiner and then hilton, nelson, haden, minkah, killebrew, joseph. we also hit on sutton. witherspoon is a wildcard at this point. i kind of like our secondary but bringing it all together is the trick that they haven't figured out yet and i think a lot of that comes from the void we had at inside linebacker. we dind't have enough to cover the middle of the field area with these guys and defend against the run too. that caused the DB's to have to play a more active role in helping that area instead of focusing on what their main job is. schobert should help this, which in turn should help the secondary. i hope anyway.
