I've been watching the Steelers play now for 40 years- 40!

So, I feel justified in going out way, WAY too early, incredibly far out on a limb, and say that-

Drew Butler will go down as the greatest punter in franchise history. Write that down.

So, how''s that for a bold and declarative statement/leap of faith?

    :)

Well, I didn't say it about Sepulveda. I was exaggerating/kidding of course, but needless to say I am very impressed with young Mr. Butler. How about this then- Drew Butler is the Steelers punter I've liked the most since Craig Colquitt.

    Kevin? Kevin Butler??

Didn't know you were a Steeler fan. Your boy's a heckuva punter, I agree. And you were a heckuva kicker for the Bears a few years ago. ;)

Just kidding with you. Welcome to the board.

Remember Josh Miller? He was one of the best punters in the league from 1996 to 2000

I like the kid but could do without hearing about his papa and the 85 bears every time he gets ready to punt the ball. He is his own man let him stand on his own. I mean once is good story telling twice is redundant three times and you are just look like you are losing your marbles.

ya I was scared of the one stat, before today he was 3 for 9 attempting 45+ yards...he hit 2 of them today, they could've gone 50+

So far I don't think he's as good as Sepulveda or even Kapinos when it comes to actual kicking (yardage and hang time), but he's definitely got a knack for getting it to bounce the right way. That comes in handy and can go a long way. I'm thrilled with him so far. Plus, the sample size right now is really small and he could get better with time.

I could have sworn there was a thread about him last fall, but search results show nothing. In any case, I remember seeing him at Georgia and being really impressed.

I really like the fact that he was able to land that one before the goal lone and get the right bounce for our unit to make the play (down). That one required touch not power and he did it. Crowd liked it too. That was his thing in college, pinning them in the twenty and getting the right bounce.

If he can keep doing it at this level, which apparently was the question with him, I think we may have our future.

Yes I definitely remember Miler, he was good and I liked him a lot. Colquitt, however, with that three step drop, was/is my personal favorite and was a huge upgrade over the aging Bobby Walden when they drafted him in 1978. And of course, his sons are carrying on his punting tradition.

all these positive qoutes are making me just wanna puke.

didn't anyone notice the way he tied his shoes. there was a bigger loop on his right one then on his left one. geeeezzz, and our head coach is helping with special teams now, so he's had to have seen it. how can this go on? it's going to cost us down the road.

Let's give the other members props also. Van Dyke was very impressive covering punts. IMO, he was a big reason why Kerley fumbled.
