Every other time a player signs somewhere else we stop talking about them, so this is a safe bet.

Mike Tomlin is the defensive backs coach that could never get his DB's problem corrected. His plug and play approach is very disappointing with unsatisfactory results. Let's hope he can find a new remedy soon.

Tomlin is the head coach not the DB coach.

    You are correct.
What I meant to say is he was hired by the Steelers with being a DB coach on his resume. He should be able to get better results as the head coach from his past experience as being such or find a better DB coach than Carnell Lake has proven to be thus far. It's very disappointing seeing declining results.

I don't think it is Lake's fault but it might be. Shamarko appears uncoachable, Will Allen was ancient, Blake is a nightmare but Mitchell improved a lot in year two while battling injuries and Gay has been solid.

Maybe Cortez will be the tiebreaker if he can regain form? See how Golson does?

Is Joey Porter to blame for the slow to non-existent devolpment at OLB? Jones and Dupree have Harrison and Porter as mentors that should be a huge advantage I would think.

At some point the DB coach will be axed then the DC then the HC if this kind of secondary play continues and I think most people will welcome a change at the end of next year if it is the same standard.

The Steelers have a serious problem evaluating talent at those positions...It also appears they don't really value the positions as much as they should . They make quick decisions to pay guys who can't really play the position. I knew when they signed Cotez it was a huge mistake ...They now seem to be looking like they think Cockrell could be the answer. He is not ...

The bottom line is we do not have the current or future #1 CB's on this roster at this time .

Maybe they haven't received this memo yet?

Finally there's the fact that with the rise of spread passing games at every level of football, most teams are rarely in 3-4 or 4-3 personnel packages anyways, instead playing nickel sub-packages. Since those nickel packages are the primary strategy for defenses, teams prioritize players that will fill the roles of those packages.

I don't believe they have a serious problem at all. They've missed at almost every position at one time or another. They just haven't drafted secondary players that high in the draft as they have other positions. Which equals better chance of missing.

    This is it.

The greatest coach ever couldn't teach me to be a good DB. First you need the God given talent. Then you can teach them how to play. Sure, every once in a while you get lucky in the 5th round, but not normally.

Unfortunately, by the time we draft, I'm guessing the top DBs will be gone.

Yep. Eli Apple had a great 40 time (4.40) so he is gone and Hargreaves and Ramsey will be as well.

I watched Mackenzie Alexander and he gets beat a lot but the QBs he faced were inaccurate so it didn't show up.

Steelers are screwed for a 1st round corner I bet. Maybe a safety will be available but there are none I'm high on early.

That's what I'm hoping. But....they are now saying that Jackson looks so good, that the Raiders are going to take him instead of Alexander. :( They are now saying Jackson's upside as a shut down corner maybe the highest in the draft.

Hmmmm...kind of what I"ve been saying for oh, the last 7 weeks. LOL. Size, speed, coverage ability, what's not to like?

Browner has two Super Bowl rings. If you call that "aint special" , I want some of that "aint special" over here in PIttsburgh. Browner is big and physical and with these new big WR, he's a nightmare. Not saying he's a top 3 per say but he's definitely a top 20 type of corner. But he could be on the decline because they say he isn't conditioning the same way as he was in Seattle.

And next you say that guys like Revis don't grow on trees. Your right. So when you have a chance to get one, you get him. Marcus Peters was easily the best cornerback in the draft last year. I don't care about he's off the fiend issues. Hell, you look at each player individually and see what their issues are. Not collectively and say with a broad brush, " I'm not taking him because of off-the field issues>"

Point being, Peters was the best cornerback in the draft and Kansas City needed a corner and made no bones about letting everyone know. Yet, Colbert sits there and expects Peters to fall to him. Kansas City took the best corner in the draft at # 18 so with this being a deeper defensive draft class, it's very possible a good one comes to us at # 25.
