i think grant will have a good career here and be one of those guys that can play a multiple role if needed. fogg i thought had some safety background too. you know how MT likes the " more you can do guy"

My opinion of Chip Kelly keeps getting lower and lower. Did anyone catch his spin on the trade today? Never in my 20+ years of watching football and doing it seriously have I witnessed a coaching change where the new HC has systematically destroyed the team that was in place because they weren't "his" guys. His spin today was that he wouldn't have traded Boykin if the Steelers hadn't actively pursued the trade. Did they pursue the trade because Kelly was shopping him around? I'm excited to have him since he will obviously be trying to prove that Kelly was wrong to get rid of him

I read somewhere that they used him as a slot corner and Kelly was high on the two CB's they picked up in the draft this year, so they were shopping him because he was expendable. He didn't figure in their plans and this being the last year of his contract, they were able to get something for him. So, the trade seems to be a win-win for both teams.

Yeah but there were also articles that said Boykin was pushing for starting on the outside and felt he should be a starting 1 or 2 CB so the drafting of two guys made little sense other than they were Chip's guys while he wasn't. Either way if Kelly wants to help the league out so he can prove his college ball works in the pros I say thank you and hope he lights it up for us

i too agree he could be a good #2 cb. i also should have said one of these guys as a free safety maybe including grant. i think shark and mitchell are way more ss then fs. grant or fogg could make a claim at a better ball hawking fs in the mix. grant tackles very well too.

BOYKIN NOT HAPPY TO BE A STEELER
(How's that for a little tabloid spin, Blast?) :roflmao:

Kelly on Sunday told reporters that Boykin appeared "stunned" by the trade when the coach delivered the news.

"He was disappointed," Kelly said. "I think he really liked it here, very close with his teammates."

I like it! Various times when I've seen the Eagles play Boykin has stood out to me, glad they got him for a decent price.

this was one good pickup for this team. very happy about this one. as i was with doran grant. i think these two help tremendously. gay is solid and if we can get tez up to snuff or someone else steps up we could be very solid at corner. safety? we will see. i sure wouldn't be against a move on that front. if it's a move like boykin anyway.

Good to hear, this is what I was hoping for. Far better for the team if he regains his form then to be cut just because he hit a rough patch.

You're too good at it, you must be an editor at one of them :smiley1:

maybe having Jones take so many snaps with the first team is part of the grand plan to get Tez's confidence back.

I like the Boykin trade but if he plays over 60% of the snaps and we don't resign him it's a bad deal. Grant is one of my favorite picks this year. I also think he will be a serious contender for starting next yr. Most likely Webb & Fogg are fighting for the same spot.

I disagree. We're a championship contender with a pressing need at a key position. If he plays more than 60% of the snaps, and contributes to a deep postseason run, then I think it's easily worth a 4th rounder to have had him for 1 year. There are plenty of teams who would give up far more in terms of future picks to have a shot now. He may fill a key missing piece for our shot.

I think this is a great pick up. Gay, Blake, Boykin, Allen, and Grant seems like a solid top 5 with Golson out possibly. Now if we can get those safeties figured out....

I disagree, unless he helps us win a superbowl. I expected us to go deep into the playoffs without him or Golston so adding him for just one year at a cost of a 4th rd pick and all we get is deep into playoffs is not a good thing.

Now if we only go that far, extend him to multi-year contact and he continues to strengthen our secondary then I'd be okay with that.

Sorry, Glenn. I should have used green font for those who have a broken sarcasm detector. You see, Blast said earlier he thought I worked for a tabloid, so I thought this would be an opportunity to put a little tabloid spin into a comment that Chip Kelly made, mostly for the benefit of Blast and others that have a little bit of a sense of humor and actually do understand sarcasm...

On second thought, never mind.

is this move for boykin anything noteable about blake? is he not what they thought possibly? not trying to read too much into this but. i also see sullen is listed as a fs in the 1st depth chart. i'd like to add webb has been doing pretty good as far as i've heard.
