Arians enables Ben's bad behavior by designing and calling plays with 4 receivers who are all 10+ yards downfield on 3rd and 6 (as an example of many flaws with the scheme and playcalling). Ben has the potential to be great, but the OC has to provide him with a scheme that will allow him to succeed and then sell him on it. Part of it is definitely Ben, but the fact that it has gone on unchecked for a few years now is due to ineffective coaching of Ben.

I agree with the article - we need to invest in our O-line. We need to trade all our draft picks for the best 2 Guards in the draft. That is the foundation of a good line - the middle 3. Ben is good at avoiding the pass rush from the ends, but no QB can handle a pass rush up the middle. That is also why we can not run the ball - penetration up the middle. When we used to have Faneca and Hartings we had no trouble running the ball. Ben plays sandlot ball because he has to - our O-line does not give him enough time. Our O-line is far inferior to the top offenses in the league. It is time we bet the farm on O-line improvement.

Ben can pull the trigger quickly. Even in his first 2 years with Whiz he actually made some quick decisive throws. That was also the last time he had a good offensive line in front of him.

Ed Bouchette says the second half of the cliche that defense wins championships is no longer true today with the NFL redrawing the rules to help offenses. After NO and GB losing, only one of the top offenses remains in the playoffs. I wonder if he still thinks that. Defense still wins championships and we saw that in GB last night.

That said, we do need to invest in our OL, but our defense isn't getting any younger...
