Right now I'm guessing he's showing the coaches that he's worth keeping around, rather than actually taking a shot at coming back this season.

Mind you, if and when he does come back, here's hoping it's going to be one hell of a comeback story.

This. I'm looking at next season too. Will be like an extra draft pick if he pulls it off.

I agree with you guys. I say bring him on slow and see what he is next season. I am still hoping we make the playoffs. If I didn't, I wouldn't be worth my salt calling myself a Steeler fan.

side note. I shoot every Monday morning. The owner of the range is a Steeler fan. I wore my Steeler shirt to shoot and the damn place was full. I couldn't get a target!! Can't even go talk smack! Till later. Going to try again this afternoon

Anything we get out of Spence is a bonus. Save him until next year. Work him back slowly and give him a shot to make the team next year. I hope he does make it because that would be a heck of a comeback!

I really didn't expect to see him this season and it doesn't look like we will. Now if by chance we get our act togehter and make it to the playoffs......sorry was daydreaming there for a second......I could see a slim possibility he returns, but doubtful.

I read an interview he gave recently where he said he's been in all the meeting so he knows the defense. He's been running sprints and cutting drills and can't wait till he gets to go 1-on-1 this week to see where he actually is when compared to some top athletes on this team.

t would seem He has a different view of himself than what wexel does.

I'm surprised due to the seriousness of the injury but I sure hope he makes it, oh man what a story.

Last thing I read was that he was having issues with cutting and just starting to try it out.

Makes sense because he did damage the nerve and doctors were worried about the drop-foot.

My biggest concern with Spence is not that can he make it back, it's can the knee hold up to a 16 game season. He's defied the odds so far, hopefully he continues to do so.

I hate to say it because I was one of his biggest fans around here but I don't think he can or will ever play at an NFL level. what does he cost to keep on IR? if it's nothing then keep him, if it does then we have to do something else until he's ready to try it out for real. then we will have a story. I don't want the kid out there and vulnerable to a cheap shot by some young idiot trying to make a name for himself.

From what I had read, I was under the impression the peroneal nerve was not something that could easily regenerate....

Perhaps there have been some scientific breakthroughs since the injury has occurred. If the nerve truly is healed, maybe he can pick up where he left off and be a major contributor for years to come. He's still very young, too. Younger than J Jones...

This is fantastic news. Good for Sean! He has apparently worked really hard to get another opportunity to play this game, and I hope he succeeds. I am really excited to watch him get his shot on the field this year, whether its only in camp or in a game during the season.

I'm skeptical too, Mac. I can't help but feel that this is speculation. Anyway, his full salary and bonus count while on PUP or IR. So, this year- $590,000 base, just shy of $140K prorated signing bonus.

If it's indeed true that the nerve has regenerated, that's great news. I would guess that the ligaments will be in perfectly fine shape come camp (2 years removed from the injury). Like many, I am still taking an "I'll believe it when I see it" view toward Spence's recovery, but I am rooting hard for him. As for the cap implications, it's not like we're carrying a million plus of salary for him, and the bonus dollars are sunk. When you factor in displacement for the salary of whoever would take the roster spot, it seems very negligible.

Was really high on this kid but I would not be surprised if he does not make it.. Some injuries are just too hard to come back from. His is especially troubling

I suffered a broken dislocated ankle and to this day have pins and found it difficult to get back to the level I was previously. Mind you my injury occured on the baseball field and not the football field

I wrote a response before I read your guys. I totally agree.. If he makes it back that is awesome but I am doubtful.

Sure others have had injuries of this nature and recovered .. I just don't think its in the cards. Shame really ... I had him pegged as your TP fillin

Actually, I don't think they have, which is why this is such a long shot.
