This will be one of the most IMPORTANT draft class
in quite sometime around here. With our LACK of talent
at the back up level usually a Steeler trade mark,we will
have to hit a home run in this one. The needs are just to great
and I believe the turn over will be large also, as Colbert said
we have an 8 and 8 roster filled with mediocre players.
The FO will HAVE to look at all avenues to rectify this talent
drain. Here is hoping that the Steelers FO/Coaches/Owners
are up to the task.I think the redshirt years for new hires
will change dramatically this year, they have to be ready to contribute
immediatley. I can seriously see a 10-15 player roster change.

I think if we have such a dramatic shift, then there is likely a 1 in 10 chance the season goes amazingly next year, and a 9 in 10 chance we continue to be unpredictable and inconsistent. The chances of finding rookies that can contribute at an NFL level and produce a winning team are always slim.

The big changes started last off-season, and I wonder if we'll see a more ruthlesss strategy regarding players like Hampton, similar to what was done with Hines. We shouldn't forget either than ;ast year's draft was very exciting - just that about everything that could go wrong did.

There's a chance that we could lose 10 of 22 starters due to free agency and cuts. If that happens don't be surprised if we're sitting in 3rd place(or worse) in the AFC North again.

Yep. Logic says that the Bengals and Browns take the North next year - Ravens aren't in too dissimilar a spot to us. The Bengals have been putting otgether a decent squad, and the Browns have Trent Richardson.

What has got us through situations like this before is, I think - and I know some may disagree - our mantra and tradition. This is why I was so against when people were claiming we should have played for draft position last season, or want to drop Tomlin immediately, or do whatever else teams like the Jets do. After all the years of drafting low, the Browns should, to all extents and purposes, be fielding a superbowl calibre team now. The main reason they don't is (aside from the odd bust) there is something that happens in that organisation which insists on them sucking each year. Mantra and tradition.

I can see us trading down. But playing for draft position? Leave that to the teams that consistently mess up any advantage they have. You're drafting a player through the strategy of basically saying "we have no dignity". Not the best note for someone to come into an organisatio on.

I never understood the logic of playing for draft pics. Besides pretty sure losing games on purpose is against the rules.

You should always play to get the WORST possible draft position. There is no exception to that rule for a REAL football team with character, integrity and desire. To suggest otherwise is to say "it's OK to give less than your best effort."

i can assure you there was no will to win that browns game when the game started. our guys were going through the motions until the pushing and shoving started. then we came alive. similar to how we played the season for the most part. we were going through the motions with no intensity most games.

Trade Ben for a couple of 1 picks and that would help rebuild this team back into contention, if the Chiefs offered their 1 pick in the 1st round along with their 1 pick in the second round wouldnt it be pretty hard to turn down????

Not for me, who's going to lead the team? There's no Lucks or Rg's coming out this year, don't know about next year but even if there is, have to hope they aren't a bust and then since you had to use one of your #1 on a QB you basically got rid of one of the best QB's in the game for one extra #1 pick. Not to mention you don't know where the Chiefs will finish next season so may miss out on any of the really good QB's anyway.

I wouldnt use the 1 pick for a QB, I would trade it for more picks and maybe get a player as well in the deal, if we had the chiefs ist pick in the draft with their 1 pick in the second we could get a D player at 17 and depending on where the other picks are sequenced in the trade for our 1st pick, we could get a back, a QB, an olineman as well as a couple of D players higher up in this draft and get some real quality players instead of late round projects......

There were plenty of games we gave "less" than our best effort. What's one more? Just ask the Colts.

Ben is supposed to be the emotional leader, but he was instead the complainer this year, he didnt want to go to the playoffs this year and it showed in his play: The locker room bickering between players, and between coaches and players was a factor as well, tomlin and wallace, tomlin and mendenhall, Ben and Haley, this team wasnt on the same page all year and it showed up the most in that clown game where they had 8 turnovers, tomlins worst coaching performance on record....

It will be an important draft, but some people are saying this is a weak draft class....

Our starters are okay, I think the problem is our back ups are below average...no future starters in waiting really....particularly at the LB position.

And Tomlin has drafted 5 linebackers since he has been here, maybe our talent evaluation isnt very good?

It's really hard to say what will happen next season. When Cowher took over, many of the publications I read were wondering why he would take over such a dismal team but the team went 11-5.

Need some starters or players that can back up if injury occurs. Not in a few years, right now.

There is no such thing as "playing for draft position"

The very guys you are asking to "throw" the game are the ones getting fired for the new talent in the draft......Where is their motivation to lay down?

Wow...I sure hope we draft a guy to take my spot in the first round next year.

No more pressure on this draft then any other year. Like all teams the Steelers will have a difficult time drafting 4 or 5 quality starters that will play right away. It's unrealistic for fans to believe that 4 or 5 players will start right away. Not sure why fans would set themselves up for that kind of disappointment?

If the Steelers were in rebuild mode or an expansion franchise the situation may be different. The Steelers don't appear to be the type of organization that believes they are ever in rebuild mode.

this is why i want a safety first. we have nobody after troy and clark but golden. if there is an injury, he would have a hard time not starting. we have nobody else. it's just logical to me. we need a future starter here anyway. it's time to get him in here.

This has to be one of the dumbest posts of the year. So, you want to trade our franchise QB for a 1st round pick and NOT take a QB? Just who would we put in that slot? Did you watch any steeler games this season? Up until Ben got hurt, he was on the way to being MVP, he was #1 in 3rd conversions, his QB rating was one of the best in the league,he only had 5 maybe 6 picks and ZERO at home. Yea Ben told our RBs to fumble those balls, yep he told Wallace not to catch those passes, yep he told our ST to suck balls, yep he told Tomlin to have the punter try to fake a FG instead of taking the 3 points, yep all that bc Ben didnt want to win.

Ben and Heath were the only 2 on our offensive that did anything. And you want to trade him.

I'm liking Golden, I think if anyone, he might be guy who has future starter potential...

yes finding 4 or 5 future starters would be tough. This why being against the cap really stinks, because I really feel this would be a good off season to land a highly sought after free agent.
