So does anyone know what is actually going on there? Did he have ligament damage? Does he need surgery? Have they said anything and I've just missed the story? I've been wondering this but forgot to ask about it. Anybody heard anything?

Last I heard was Ben saying he may have like a clean up scope. Be no more than 3 weeks. He may rest 3 weeks after the season anyhow

There was an article about how Von Miller & Aqib Talib said Ben was faking his shoulder injury.
It had this quote from Ben:

"I guess the ligaments will, you know, scar up and heal on their own. Obviously we'll be dealing with a little bit of pain and some limited movement here for a little bit but supposedly will heal on its own,” Roethlisberger said, adding that he would only need surgery to clean out scar tissue. “I don't foresee any surgeries or anything on the shoulder any time soon."

I've posted this to try to educate some dopey Bungle fans who thought that Ben was faking his injury. It's the best article that I've seen that describes the injury.

About 25 years ago I had a grade 2 separation. Ben has a grade 1 separation. I didn't get surgery and Ben won't need it either. They usually heal on their own but are honestly very painful.

I happen to know a thing or two about shoulder injuries as I've had a couple surgeries on my right shoulder and dislocations in my left due to sports induced injuries. When he talks about ligament damage, sure they can "heal" somewhat on their own but it will never be 100% unless surgery is performed and even then you're never 100% the same. The shoulder is connected to many parts of your body, just favoring while its healing can do a number on your back. I had a slap tear in my one shoulder repaired 16 months ago with a few screws and I still have issues with strength and stability. I know Ben is not getting surgery but he still will have an uphill battle for the next 6 months, hopefully this does not effect him too bad.

Before doing surgery its best to wait for the inflammation to go down and see what you really have. Then a scope to clean it up. He probably also has some impingement. That can easily be fixed but is quite sore for a while.
