I might have been a bigger fan of "Benny Snell Football" if he hadn't bragged about it before he gained a single yard in the NFL. Now, every time I hear it I get a negative vibe.

I agree that Snell gets stronger as the game goes on. During the second Bengals game we were holding onto a 6 point lead late in the game when they just kept giving the ball to Snell. He ground out first down after first down until the clock ran out and the Bengals never got the ball back.

I hate to use the 'gals as a valid point, but in his 5 games with 15 plus carries his really only bad outing was against the Cards. I am not saying he is the 2nd coming of anything, but really want to see if takes a jump this year.

Agreed Snell shows some good power, but unfortunately I don't think he has the quickness to be a feature back. Good situational player and serviceable for now just like Samuels

I like Benny. I see him and Watt doing a lot of the grinding on early downs this year with Conner coming in on third downs for his superior pass blocking and receiving, McFarland getting worked in here and there as the year goes on too. That’s not a bad backfield.

The battle between Samuels and Whyte for that fourth RB / ST spot will be intriguing. If we are all agreed that they are keeping Switzer then I’m not sure they need Samuels any more tbh.

Some are saying Steelers might trade Samuels for mid to low round draft choice.

    Cowboys are being mentioned.

If they could get something for him then better again. I’d say a 5th or 6th round pick would be fair. Can’t see anybody giving that if he is going to be cut anyway though

Benny will be the lead back next season. I think he is very underrated and will surprise a lot of people. Especially with how he has shown up this season.

Heck, with Conners injury history, he may be lead back before the end of this season.

He might be the lead back by default by the end of the season. As far as lead back heading into 2021 I'm not sure. Ben dialing it down & running a Cowher offense is hard to envision. I expect to see a Bell type receiving RB until the Big Boy hangs the cleats up.

Wendell Smallwood might be in the mix for the fourth RB spot.

I think Snell could give you what Conners does in the passing game and that’s enough. We’ll find out this season how much he is involved with that aspect of the game.

I think McFarland Jr is the future. I think he could be like Alvin Kumara, at least I'm hoping.

    Maybe a Ingram/Kamara platoon with Benny/McFarland.

    McFarland has loads of potential.

Between Snell and Switzer, there is a lot of talk about a couple of basic Joe's.

Benny Snell Football was 8 for 5 @ 0.6 yesterday. 3.2 on the season.

    Grump Old Guy isn’t impressed.

My crystal ball is starting to see a running back fairly high in the next draft.

I agree. Steelers need OL, RB and CB in the draft.

Okay now enough of the Benny Snell Football, it's not going to happen until the offensive line blocking improves. No matter who the running back is.

I don't blame the total lack of a running game on the running backs alone. Conner has some tools, Snell runs hard and McFarland has some speed. None are great but Conner and Snell should be good enough.

I do not see any holes or lanes to run through, the oline doesn't get any movement in drive blocking and for some reason they have totally abandoned using a pulling guard. Once against Balt. they pulled DD and that was one of the few successful running plays the whole game.

Henry might be able to grind out a 100yd a game behind our oline but it might take him 33 carries, there is just no openings.

He also had over a 100 yards when he filled in for Conner in the first game.

The difference was they were actually making an attempt to include a ground game back then.

I’m just saying it’s hard to pinpoint the problem when you aren’t trying to run.
