Trying to say something positive as my anger is out of control right now and in my mind I'm punching random people.

I really think Ben's decision making so far this year has been better than at any point in his career. There's still been some iffy choices made, but he's only had 3 games under a new OC, and lets face it, Ben has some bad habits. But I really think his decision making is much improved. I have seen him many times looking way down field and it was obvious he wanted to chuck it deep, but he threw underneath to a RB or TE. That is stuff he struggled with last year. He normally chucked it deep into double coverage and he ignored the wide open underneath stuff so many times.

I truly believe that with Haley as his OC, in a years time, he's going to be significantly better than ever. He's finally learning how to take what the defences gives him, rather than trying to force things.

    :lolol: :roflmao: :lolol:

That's hilarious. I agree though, it's great to see him exploiting the underneath coverage, instead of trying to force it into downfield double coverage. There were a few times this offseason when I read 'Haley is going to make Ben better' and I thought 'Haley wasn't a QB coach, he was receivers coach for years' and 'that didn't really work out in KC', BUT this offensive philosophy is working. We are spreading the ball out like crazy, and Ben is extending the play like he does, AND finding the check down man. It's looking good on that front. On a somewhat related side note, I must say I'm still looking for the package diversity that I expected to see from Haley. In KC he ran lots of varying run packages, and so far I really haven't seen a whole lot of diversity. I will say though that he is spreading the carries around among the backs, which is great. No reason to force a 'premier' back when one isn't presenting himself.

Haley has been a breath of fresh air for the offense and I submit to you as proof the play of Ben and the production coming from Heath the first 3 games. Time for a breath of fresh air on the defensive side of the ball. Thanks for your service DL but you've stuck around a couple of years too long.

I also feel like Haley has had a positive impact on Ben. Don't we have the Rooneys to thank for that? Wasn't it them that brought him here?

No, that was Tomlin. ;) ;)

BA would still be here if it were up to Coach T.

Agree Ben has been a bright spot, but one could say that pick 6 cost us the Denver game...down 6 with the ball and 2:30 to go...that's a win in our grasps

I knew it was them with BA but I was thinking that the Rooneys recommended Haley to Tomlin. I'm sure you're right. I'm just so mad right now that I can't really think.

One could also say our philosophy of stubborness also cost us that game. If we would use Free Agency wisely Tracy Porter could've been playing for us and Lewis and Mundy could've been watching and learning. Then we wouldn't have had to worry about a pick 6 to Porter.

I listen to Tim and Pat a lot on Sirius NFL. Pat was saying recently that he spoke to Haley a while back, and while he was paraphrasing everything and not quoting Haley, he said Haley is dying to get Mendenhall back as he can't run the offence he wants to run with Redman and Dwyer. Pat was basically saying that Dwyer and Redman just aren't good enough to do what Haley wants to do. Tim was predicting our run game to get significantly better as the season progresses, with mendenhall.

We'll see what happens, but Dwyer and Redman really haven't looked very good. Redman has a role, and it's pushing the pile when you need 1 yard. He's not a feature back by any means.

Sorry, you apparently didn't understand my sarcasm there. They played it off as being a Tomlin hire but the reality is that Art Rooney had to step in and make the change at OC. Tomlin bought into it pretty quickly to his credit but he was not the one that pulled the trigger on the hire. Had it been up to him, I really believe that BA would still be our OC.

Absolutely. Tomlin even said BA would be back next year, that is until Rooney stepped in and corrected him. I don't believe for a second that Tomlin hired Haley, I think Haley was told to interview him and strongly consider hiring him, as in I don't believe Tomlin had a choice in the matter. Also one more reason I think Tomlin is on borrowed time unless something changes drastically.

So there ARE some who believe the Rooney's were behind the hiring of Tomlin?

Many of us believe that. There are some NFL analysts who have said as much too. I've heard it on Sirius NFL in the past.

On a more negative note, though Ben has been playing well, where have the game winning or saving drives been? An interception in Denver, and unable to drive for a field goal win in Oakland. Where is the guy to put the team on his back and do fourth quarter magic?

We scored 30+ points without any help from our defence. When you score that many points there should be no need for a game winning drive.

But the point was we had the ball with less than 2 minutes left and tied and gave Palmer (who is a very good QB no matter what you think) a chance to get one of the best FG kickers in the league in range...and they did.

Yeah, so? You don't let coaches work into their last year of their contract, that's just not done often. It's considered very disrespectful for the coach. They can still fire him at any point. I don't think it will happen anytime soon, but I think it will happen within 5 years. I really think we're going to continue to see these same problems until Tomlin is replaced

I put this on another post but I will ask you guys here as well. Who would replace Tomlin? Do you think the Rooney's would give the job to Haley if Tomlin were to go? I don't think Tomlin is in danger. I'm just asking.

No clue, it's too far into the future. Like I said, I don't see Tomlin getting fired within the next couple years, but as the problems persist, I think it will happen. I think he's a good DC, but not a good head coach.
