You've been at UPS for a long time, BFT. Do you have no interest in being a driver or haven't been there long enough? My brother worked at UPS a lifetime ago, started as a truck loader and then became a driver. If I remember correctly, you had to load for x amount of years before qualifying to drive. And the pay increase was nice.

Yeah I just went through the "Package School" in Birmingham 2 weeks ago. Knoxville is literally the worst hub in the nation for going full time. When I was in the class in Alabama there were guys getting to drive after being there only a year and a half. I was the top guy from Knoxville but there were two other guys with me and both of them had over 11 years. It takes about 14 years to go full time. I make a great hourly wage already by working in the building and loading and have totally free benefits that are world class. I also get 5 paid weeks off a year but as good as I do in the building I can't even hold a candle to the guys that are full time package car drivers. Once they go full time they start off at $34 an hour. I'm doing what's called "Cover Driving" which means I'm just filling in for whoever is off that day and running their route. It's incredibly stressful to handle a vehicle that big but if I can get used to it I will really be set because only 2 other cover drivers in Knoxville have more seniority than me. I don't know if I will ever go full time or not because it's just tough to manage the schedule with also trying to manage a pastoral schedule and see my wife and kids. I would recommend UPS to anyone that's willing to work hard because it's one of the few jobs you can have and make 6 figures with just a high school education. VERY tough work though! I could see why your brother wouldn't want to do it forever.

You will get used to that big vehicle BTF. When I was a SSGT 1976-1979 in Madison Wisconsin training reserves, I had to get a licence to drive a 44 passenger bus. We drove the reserves to Fort McCoy on drill weekends for 2 1/2 years. Then one day my supply guy says to me, why do you guys go 110 miles, leave the sedan and drive the buses here, Madison, drive the reserves to MCCoy, drive them back here, drive the buses back to McCoy and then drive the sedan back here, when it is cheaper for me to just order greyhounds? I came VERY CLOSE TO SHOOTING HIM!
But the point is. After about 5 round trips I handled that bus like my small Ford Pickup. You'll do fine when you get promoted to full time. The toughest thing is make sure you leave enough room for turns.

Ok, yeah, things haven't changed much in 20 years with them. Thats pretty much what I remembered.

My brother didn't have a choice, a 50lbs package fell on his knee and busted it up pretty good, it was the leg he clutched with. Had several operations but was never right again.

I can't say I'm surprised. It's easy to get hurt there. Most package cars now are automatic though. They've been making me go out in 5 speeds though just so I can get used to it. I actually had to buy a straight shift from a guy I go to church with last year so I could learn how to drive one. I've never realized how dumb most people are in their cars until I got in a UPS truck. I mean dude people will pull right up under your bumper and down here in the mountains it's always up hill both ways and you'll be on huge hills and people will just roll right up behind you and blow at you and cut you off and everything. They're telling me at work that I just have to relax and I'll be fine. It is much easier said than done though. When you go from a MINI Cooper to a huge truck it is quite the difference.

Yeah everybody tells me you just have to get used to it. It's extremely nerve wracking. Last year I got my CDL permit because I was thinking about driving our tractor trailers but my school just went legendarily bad I wound up disqualifying myself because it was just obvious it wasn't meant to be. My dad's whole side of the family was pretty much all truck drivers but that life just doesn't translate well to pastoring. I've had a lot of tractor trailer drivers at work tell me that if I ever did decided to really do it that eventually I would drive that big rig like I do my MINI but I just can't see how. I've only got to go out twice in the package cars so far and done terrrribly. So on the first time I went out I said I gave myself a "One on a scale of 1 to a million" and on Saturday I gave myself "about a 1.7 out of a million" and my buddy said "Well, you're headed in the right direction!" LOL!!! My main problem is I'm an extreme perfectionist by nature and when I make a mistake it flusters me to the point of almost freezing me. I HATE making mistakes but my buddies keep on telling me that mistakes are inevitable and you just have to not worry about them. If I can get to that point I will be fine.

Hey if it's keeping our mind off the fact that our superstar back can't stay on the field because of his own selfishness then in the words of McCartney I say Let It Be. LOL!

I've never done a hard day's work in my life.

(That's actually completely untrue, but I just felt the thread needed some balance).

Back on topic lol so I read some tweets that said the changed cell phone number excuse has worked before. So now it's on the collector to prove he got a hold of Bell.

I read that too. But policy dictates that it is the player's responsibility to disclose the new phone number to the league for this very reason.

Well according to some NFL insiders a four game suspension can lead to a player being angry and playing above a normally high level. Lets hope that Bell is ticked off no matter what and goes nuts on gameday.

Well, look on the bright side, we would rather he miss the first 4 games than miss the last 4 games, and hopefully he can stay out of trouble and injury free for the 12 games he will be playing.....

Tin foil hat back on. If there are people "in the know" who know the result of the appeal, then that implies a decision is made. If so, why wait until mid august to let Bell and the team know? Other wise, "people in the know" don't know :poopy:

Sad indeed, Mac. If he did duck the tests because he couldn't lay off the weed, I don't have much hope that he ever will be able to.

Lets hope they don't know what you think they don't know.

My thoughts exactly. One less game vs Burfict & Co? Escaping those Chiefs LB's with Bell still intact?

Not worried. Confident as ever about next season!
