I didn't even know AC4 was scheduled for release this year, but here's a first look. The trailer was set to be released next week, but was leaked ahead of time. I haven't played the AC franchise much, but I know some of you might salivate over this. <cough> Ray <cough>

Yeah it's gonna be awesome. Hopefully they fix what was wrong with 3 and all will be well.

What was wrong with the third one? (It looked cool, but I've never played it).

It was just sorta unbalanced in terms of gameplay and didn't present the variety of 2. It didn't really focus on weaponry as much and I just felt like 2 was a more focused game. Don't get me wrong though I loved 3. I'm just saying it wasn't a perfect game by any stretch of the imagination. There were a lot of things in it that weren't very fleshed out even though they were actually good ideas. Like the homestead feature which was sort of a call back to the city that you could build in 2 but just not nearly as well done. Also the convoy feature wasn't executed very well either. But the multiplayer was really fun and actually me and Ray played it together.

You could literally play the entire game with a single weapon and never had a need to switch it up (except for variety's sake). It was a bit buggy on release. And despite the HUGE world, some of it seemed tedious rather than fun. But it was fun just the same. :D

Oh, and YAR! Shiver me timbers, we're gone blow the hatches off this one!

Captain Kenway, huh? Doesn't look like Connor. Could be his son, but then what's Blackbeard doing there? He'd be dead nigh 100 years.

    Connor's Grandfather? Great Grandfather?

What I'm more wondering about is who is gonna be the new Desmond? I guess it will depend on what the ending meant for 3. Seems like 4 was meant to start a new bloodline so maybe this guy has nothing to do with Connor. Also I think this is gonna be next gen if what I read on ign was right. I'll bet there's gonna be a lot of sea battles on this one since they were kind of a big hit on 3.

I think the sea battles were tacked onto AC3 at the last minute as a testing ground. They planned on doing a true pirate version all along.

As far as Desmond goes, who says he's dead? ;-)

Well that's kinda what I was saying. I guess it just depends on how you interpret the ending. I thought they sorta made it like he sacrificed himself to give humanity another fighting chance instead of just ending it all right then and there. But I don't think anyone (even ubisoft) knew what the crap that ending meant. LOL. But if it DID mean that he died then wouldn't that mean there is someone new in the animus?

Footage from E3. Oh, please, Ubisoft. Let this one be as polished as the Ezio games. Don't repeat the mistakes of AC3. Love the world they're making here and as long as they minimize the dullness (both of character and tasks) of Connor's story, this might be an early classic for the next gen.

Looks pretty sweet. I like how seamless the transitions are. On a side note, I'm just getting AC3 used from Gamefly.

Thinking about the story for AC4 and AC3...

We know Edward is Hatham's father and Connor's grandfather. Connor even talks about him in the DLC. (I won't go into Hatham's story so as not to spoil TTF who's about to play AC3).

But in AC3, Achilles has Connor retrieve an outfit and tells him it's from the first assassin in America. Was it Edward's? And considering Achilles' age, it's possible he was a contemporary of Edward's at some point. So I'm wondering if we'll see a young Achilles in AC4. I hope so. There's more story there.

    Crap. :lolol:

I've got such a backlog of unplayed games...it's not even funny. To put it into perspective- I never finished RDR.

RDR can really suck you in and take longer than some "longer" games. But still... tsk. :glare::rant::beee:

(Ok, I suppose I should give you a pass due to your full plate with the bonus surprise this past year ;))

(The good news is, you really do not need to hunt, or any of the other stuff for AC3. although the side missions are worth doing)

I never used to be that way, but come to think of it, I guess having a busier schedule and a bunch of rug rats running around effects my playing time. I did play the hell out of that game though, but like you said, it sucks you in. I didn't really spend too much time trying to get through it either. It was just so cool to kill time, and casually go through the RDR universe. I'll get back to it one of these days.

Good to know AC3 will be easier to get through.

Hehe. Every time I do a full play through of RDR, I still end up getting sucked in and putting 60 hours in or so. Too much fun gambling, hunting, and raising hell.

When I did my first repeat of AC3, I was done in 3 nights. I didn't bother with hunting, or crafting (crafting especially is a huge waste of time). The only non-story things I did were the Homestead quests, all of the naval stuff, and all of the forts.

Actually, I did hunt just a little bit in the beginning to make some money to upgrade my ship come to think of it... and I made a point of getting all the chests (chests = easy money). Hunting beaver (something we all knew as young men I'm sure ;)) is probably your most efficient time for money activity. They're easy to find, easy to kill, and sell for a good price. I never even wasted an arrow. Just sprint at them and stab'em. They're found along almost every river, sometimes in packs. Kill'em all, go back the way you came and repeat. Bears sell for a TON, but you'll be almost halfway through the game before you see any in worthwhile amounts, and you cannot kill a bear easily without having to endure a QT event (short of assassinating from a tree).

That was my other beef with AC3. I HATE QT events. To me, it's a lazy mechanic.

Maybe my favorite if only for the awesome shanty:

And if you liked the small taste of the Randy Dandy shanty, here's the full version:

They've confirmed over 35 sea shanties are in the game.

5 historic pirates will also play a part in the story. We've all seen Blackbeard. Also featured will be Charles Vane, Calico Jack Rackham, Anne Bonny, Mary Reed, and Benjamin Hornigold. A very brief, "Reader's Digest" primer on these pirates:

Based on those histories, I have an inkling or 2 which way the story may go... not fully fleshed out yet. ;)

    Newest trailer:

I wish my historical knowledge was better and I could guess who those enemies are. I'm assuming the redhead is Anne Bonny, but other than that, I'm not sure.
