Jumping back in this Ben conversation and one thing that had little conversation. Ben had one of the greatest super-bowl drives ever against the Cardinals. Never forget in the stands for that game when the drive started and a fan next to me said this is what legends are made of, and Ben was in a zone and drove down the field like he was possessed with pass after pass then the final pinpoint pass to Holmes. Best super bowl drive ever by any QB.

Absolutely miss him. It still amazes me how many took him for granted. But, Yinzers love to hate franchise QBs like him and Bradshaw, no matter what, it seems the QB is always the scapegoat.

I don’t think Colbert really jived with what Tomlin was looking for on defense after Tomlin made the changes to Lebeau’s 3-4. Colbert probably should’ve left earlier than he did.

ohhh - we knew it. well, many of us knew it.

it's why I am so frustrated with Tomlin. falling short so many years

we are in the lost decade now.

    Prime Ben, is the key

    by 2019, it was over.

this organization - Tomlin and Colbert primarily - had no vision for change and transition. They drafted Rudolph with NO CLUE to to work him in and develop and coach him. Ben snubbed him

and here we are, 6, 7 years later with a SUCK MESS on our hands.

some here were discussing that back then......."Seems like yesterday", as one songwriter once wrote......."But it was long ago"

Ben didn't lose that SB any more than he won the first one!

the good thing may be mason is only 5 years in and we have a QB coach and an offense that smith runs that could be a way to still work him in. many doubt it but i do think this offense fits mason well. we have given this offense two threats at receiver now. i can see it boiling down to adding a RB. the o-line is young so maybe this can all advance together.

it's a well known fact in pittsburgh the backup QB is always the best one. i see why everyone wants a new one in the draft. he is the new backup until he's not.

if this is indeed the offense they want to run, they have to adjust the players that may run it the best to the scheme itself. give them a chance with their strengths to use it. stop with the square pegs in the round holes. not every player matches up in every system. by the time you adjust one player to a system, you have wasted other players waiting on one.

was he the losing QB in that SB? then he lost it. terry didn't lose SB's. put's him right there with NOD. loser. OK ben won a couple. but still, we are not supposed to lose SB's. the standard was set by TB. :smiley1::cool:

so, i think this offense fits Mason well too. I bet he starts week one. the AROD discussions were DUMB starting in February.....

BUT - that OLINE has to perform. that is the KEY to it ALL.

you are correct, purely on QB play.

Ben got the 'win' vs. SEA but he did not play well.

Ben was an enigma of a QB. loved him, but he was no TB12, that is for sure.

When Ben lost his Top 5 Defense, which he has for MANY MANY years, Ben and the OFFENSE could not carry the team.

It was always LeBeau and the defense that was primarily the crushing force + Ben making SPECTACULAR plays now and again....

If Jackie Smith doesn’t drop that INT in SB XIII then TB loses that SB. If Mendenhall doesn’t fumble there is a good chance Ben wins SB XLV. We can do this all day long for every championship game.

so does experience. they should keep getting better while playing together. giving the coach a set group to work with makes a difference. i'm hoping the injury bug moves on.

They don't make to the super bowl in 2005 if Ben would not been great in the 3 road playoffs game
