Another Tomlin Tradition Trashed

I'm sorry, but I don't believe that. I have family who consider themselves "true conservatives"... and all they watch is Fox News and occasionally Turner Classic Movies.

A real "true conservative" wouldn't have elected a closet fascist to run for president in the primary, instead of Nikki Haley.

So is Newsmax legit to you? OAN? I'm being serious, not facetious.

Mike Tomlin’s NFL debut for NBC: He needs the ‘tapeworm’ to reach his TV potential - The Athletic

Tomlin described how defending champions can be either “hungry or driven.” He then mentioned a “tapeworm.” His overall point was that as the hunted, not the hunter, you have to want it more.

While it was a bit confusing, he could have been detailing his move from Super Bowl-winning Pittsburgh Steelers coach to studio analyst.

Though Tomlin brought much-needed gravitas to the remodeled “Football Night in America” in his regular-season debut, his performance left more of a question than a verdict: To borrow his terminology, does he have a “tapeworm”-like drive for TV or not?

For sure, Tomlin has a lot of potential. His on-air presence is exceptional, as you want to know what he is going to say. He looked pretty comfortable on set and had the signals down on where to look as Maria Taylor quarterbacked a revamped NBC pre-game show that will be on the road every week.

Anyone who believes they are getting the full story in an unbalanced way from any cable news channel doesn't understand how cable news channels make money.

My understanding is that this also became true for newspapers since Craigslist and then FB Marketplace destroyed their revenue stream from classified ads.

Now these "news sources" follow a maketing strategy that's more like Kevin Kelly's 1,000 true fans than caring anything about the truth. And because they're all so captured by the people that still watch / subscribe, they tell them whatever they want to hear.

Same is true for all the fragmented independent sources too.

The best thing is probably talk to people you agree and disagree with in real life. But most of us don't really get much chance to do that since people self-gerrymander a lot. So the odds that our neighbors have most of our political beliefs is a lot higher than it was for my parents generation.

You are an educated interpersonal listen to them all or at least read the headlines and sift out the truth on your own

Unfortunately none of them give detailed facts just bits and pieces

 

I don't have that luxury. Most of my family, co-workers, high school and college friends disagree with my political views... except for a few cousins, one high school friend and one uncle who recently passed away. I live in a rural county that is tilted red by 85%. I am a 15%'er.

Before I moved to the US, I lived in a place that was close to even. Would elect people from the two major parties at about a 60/40 split.

Now I live in the North Eastern US. So it's a one party area. Which I think is much worse.

Just like in business, having local monopolies is generally bad for people IMO.

This is the last political post I'm going to make in this thread though. Don't want to get pulled down any rabbit holes that aren't related to JPJ's contract or how hard the warning signs of Bell's decline were there in his last year with us for those who were open to the possibility.

 

I hate to be negative... but I don't think JPJ is gonna sign another contract with Steelers. He will end up on another team soon, if not... very soon.

 

It's possible.

I think it will end like TJ and Troy with a last minute deal. But that's what I've been saying all offseason, so I'm certainly biased.

I think he's certainly on the team for the next two years unless someone is willing to trade us at least a 1st round pick next draft.
