Okay, so am I the only one who gets frustrated at all the, we expect them to take a step back....blah, blah, blah talk from the media about this team?

First a couple of quick points about the defense. They know they weren't great last year. That will be helped in many many ways. It will be helped by an offense which actually knows how to run the ball and can do so due to an improved line. It will be helped by KNOWING they weren't good. It will be helped by the young guys getting older, while probably hurt a little by the older guys getting older. It will be helped by having a healthy Harrison, Woodley, Timmons back at his correct position, having more depth with Farrior being out now due to something other than injury, and probably by not having William Gay on the field (LOL!).

Second, I started thinking how things have changed since last year.

When I look at our offense, I see either the same performance at a minimum or an improvement. Any new guy you stick in there still has to earn that spot over the predictable although flawed veteran. If Adams beats Starks, if Decastro beats Foster, Colon to LG....I see all of those as improvements potentially. Add the new offense and I don't see anything as being bad.

On defense, I don't see any significant changes to the starters, but I think our depth has improved. The Dline has gotten younger, the LB core has gotten younger and will depend upon that youth in Sylvester, Spence, Worilds, and Carter. Those 4 right there are our BACKUPS! The Cornerbacks are a year older which is good for everyone but Ike. The S position is still the biggest question, but the starters...assuming they stay healthy...I have no fear they are taking a step back.

This team came out flat in game 1....Lost. Looked HORRIBLE at Houston....Lost. Didn't close out a game against Baltimore....Lost. Played with a QB who couldn't move against a VERY good SF team....Lost. Of those teams, San Francisco may have been playing the Super Bowl had they not fumbled a punt. Baltimore's kicker misses basically an extra point or THAT team who we lost to twice might have been in the Super Bowl. I see no reason why this team can't be 12-4 this year....NONE! They play the NFC East and the Ravens. Yes, there are other games they can lose on the schedule...Denver, Dallas, any road game, but IMO, this team has me VERY excited. I think every pundit in the NFL is going to get to week 13 and go...how did they do that?

the whole article by Schein is beyond stupidity.
I mean let's take a look at his predictions:
Steelers 3rd in AFC-N = doubt it, worst outcome will be #2
Broncos 3rd in AFC-W = similar to Steelers, they won't necessarily win it, but their defense is still pretty good and 18 is an upgrade over TimmyT (unless Harrison takes him out in week1 obviously)
Niners can win a SB with Smith at QB = That I can agree with, unless their D drops off big-time, they alone can win games for them and all Smith has to do is not lose the games for them (see Ben in the 05 season)
TimmyT + Sanchez will work as QB combo in NY = I doubt it, the fans are just too volatile, the locker room/team (starting with stupid Rex at the top) is an asylum where nobody (not even the inmates) pretend to have any control over anything ...
Panthers will be 4th in their division = Nope. Yucks are worse, NO and ATL will probably fight for the crown but I give them a good chacne to win it or at least be 2nd.

    So yeah ... 1/5 if I'm generous

Schein is an idiot. He hates on the Steelers every single year and is always wrong. I won't even listen to his show on Sirus anymore becasue he is so baltantly anti-steelers and por new york/new england everything. Just another typical new york A-hole

First off, who's Kenny Stabler, I mean Adam Schein?

Second, every "expert" wants us to fall off but every year and probably more than any other team we are competitive and in Super Bowl contention every year. That is why there are so many haters out there. If they really paid attention they would recognize how better we will be without Bruce Arians ruining our "loaded" offense. We will protect #7 better. We will run the ball like we used to, but we will still pass it well. The key is when you have a good OC, he will call the right play at the right time. Note: Aren't we already better without those bubble screens? Weren't they called every other play last year on offense? They only way we will fall off is if injuries hit us hard at key positions: Harrison, Ben, Troy, Woodley, etc.

When we win it all this year, everyone will say "We told you all along not to count the Steelers" out.

I liken it to predicting a huricane. I live in NY and every season they predict this is the year we will get hit with a huricane. Well, after about 20 years they finaly got it right last season. Predict it long enough, eventually you'll get one right.

I don't pay much attention to the so-called experts. I expect the Steelers to attack this season with a chip on their shoulder and I won't mind anything the pundits do to make that chip bigger.

    I like Adam Schein.

But hes usually wrong about the Steelers.

The thing with these pundits (Schein is actually the play by play guy for the Jets) is that often times they simply do not know enough about a team and make assumptions much like Joe Ordinary fan of another team does. Assumptions and predictions based upon common, readily available knowledge gained from national media sources and not the in depth analysis that a teams fan base does.

In other words Adam Scheins opinion is no more valid, no more knowledgable the Joe Schmoe, Raider fan when asked to evaluate the Steelers. Or if some of you were to give your in depth opinion about, say, the Seattle Seahawks. You know a probably know a little bit, but not enough to make a truly valid and knowledgable prediction.

The difference is that Schien, because of his broadcasting career, has a stage, a platform...NFL Radio...and that 'supposedly' gives him more credibility than an ordinary fan when its simply not true.

Who cares. Ross Tucker thinks the Steelers are going to win the division, should Ravens fans boycott his show? Not every analyst is going to pick the Steelers. Some may even pick us to come last in the division. The great thing about analysts is you can find more than one opinion. How boring would life be if everybody agreed with each other
