Absolutely correct. I do not have any one person in mind, but seemingly most years there is at least one player who has been productive, but not necessarily dominant. Then puts together a more than solid final year in his current contract. Add to that possibly being in a position where the FA competition is weak and a few teams with a lot of cash are willing to overspend (Dan Snyder anyone), those particular players make premium bucks and often never deliver.

I don't have a misunderstanding of the principles of free agency, but thanks for suggesting that I do. Being free matters, but so does position. Once you get past the stars, the safety position isn't a very highly compensated group. There are plenty of recent examples of OK safeties on modest contracts (Mills, Chung, Sendejo, etc.).

You are correct.. My apologies for the sematics. Should have done better there. :)

That said, while the safety group has not historically been highly compensated, the fact remains is that $14.6 Million is the starting current limit of the market for Safeties thanks in part to Eddie Jackson of the Chicago Bears. As you said, there are plenty of decent safeties with modest contracts. As it stands now, Terrell is great in run support but his coverage skills are sorely lacking.

However, this is still not the main factor overall here regarding Terrell Edmunds. Should Terrell perform very well to even receive a Pro Bowl nod, no way he wants the highest current market value. Terrell will likely command money to reset the market.... assuming Derwin James does not beat him to the proverbial finish line.

Again, this is all assuming Terrell does become a Pro Bowl level player in Year 3.

Whoever decided to sign these two deserves a raise. Haden has been elite.
