#91 given out already?

According to my current post draft roster #91 was given to Corbin Bryant...A undrafted DE we signed in 2011 out of Northwestern who has been cut from our practice squad many times and NEVER pick up by any team...His # was 95(which they assigned this year to Ta'amu)..Now they have him listed as 91.....Dont you think after all Aaron Smith has done over the years for this team they COULD have at least waited a few years before reassigning his number!!!

 

sucks but if they didnt give out numbers of great players there wouldnt be enough numbers to go around

yeah at the end of the day ben matters more then anybody on this team with the exception of maybe troy.

 

They don't retire any numbers at all. They do just stop using some (#75, #58), and they do let them sit for awhile sometimes. I agree with those that say Smith's deserves some time to rest.

Matters? When Ben is hurt, Charlie Batch matters more than anybody on this team. That's not really the criteria.

To me retiring the number is all about showing respect. I can't imagine a more honorable person to show some respect to than Aaron Smith.

 

I think during camp or pre camp they don't care about what number to hand out....you after all the cuts some of the younger guys get reassigned jersey numbers....

 

as far as i know only ernies number has been retired. the only retired number of any steeler.. great trivia question

first off corbin bryant was an udfa last year. he's not been bounced on and off the practice squad. he was actually put on the roster last year and played in one game. they like him. he's got some talent.

a.smith has been my favorite forever, but he's not that petty of a person and i'm going out on a limb here could care less if the kid uses that number.

 

I actually have a 91 jersey from back when it was Kevin Greene. Maybe or maybe not Bryant, but another great Steeler will eventually wear that number.

 

I'm with those that don't think this is a very big deal and I doubt that anyone will be wearing #91 once the season begins.

There are so many people in camp these days that so many jersey numbers have to be given out. We're going to have a lot of battles for positions and I would imagine the coaches don't want to give out duplicate numbers if they can avoid it in order to avoid confusion.

Certain #s tend to never be given out, even in training camp, but that seems to be the exception. In the case of Bradshaw's #12, you don't have 10 QBs in camp and it's pretty easy to avoid it and just give one of the young guys #9, #11, etc. etc. etc. The #s in the 90s are a little tougher because you have a lot of DL and LB that can wear these numbers so they naturally will have limited numbers they can give out when they are this many people at the beginning of camp.

I still find it funny seeing anyone wearing 55 who isn't Joey Porter - but the task of the next guy wearing that number is to supersede their predecessor. Tough work for Bryant, admittedly...

 

As others have said I don' mind them giving it out in Camp and OTA's but it is my hope they wait a bit, say a year, out of respect for what Smith meant to the team.

 

36, and 86 have been added to the list...at least for the time being......but as for #7.....he is the franchise....everyone else is 2nd place...and that includes Troy.
