Actually got to meet Bill Nelson at my older sister's Christmas party in the early 70's around the time his career was concluding. Seemed like a nice guy. Did a Google check and low and behold it was when the Steelers traded him to the Browns in 1968 that history was made - the Steelers received no other than this MB's favorite - Dick Shiner in return. Hmm. Small world. :hehehe:

Antonio Brown was a beast until he lost his mind. The guy was a workout freak and an incredible talent on the field up until the Vontaze Burfict hit. It's too bad that his talent along with Lev Bell became an afterthought and now neither attribute much other than letting their ego's get in the way.

Randy Grossman gets the accolades today.

I remember playing backyard football in grade school. We all pretended to be Buddy Dial when we caught a pass. It's hard to believe that it was nearly 60 years ago.

I'm old:( Buddy Dial was probably my first Steeler hero. I was very young and the Pirates were the toast of the town in the early 60's but in 62-63 I discovered Steeler football. Won tickets for being a good little paperboy and went to my first Steeler game at old Pitt stadium. I think they played in Forbes Field too but my first game was in 63 and I remember the hard benches of Pitt stadium. Damn if I can remember who we played (Browns, Packers????) but Buddy became my hero.

They even use the players name like you do, like yesterday they had Heath Miller days away.

I wonder if it’s a member or just a lurker :hmm:

I thought about doing Heath Miller days, but I didn't want to slight Louis Lipps. If only the Steelers had not drafted Mark Malone ... Louis Lipps would have been Duper and Clayton in one body.

Going to be a tough first game. The fact that one of those two teams is going to start out 0-1. most likely, is crazy. They're both so loaded and ready to make a run. I think the Steelers Defense will really cause the Bills problems.

From post WWII until early 60's I think games were played almost exclusively at Forbes Field unless of course there was a conflict with the Pirates in September or in 1960, October! :thumbs up: Then a bit later, around the time you joined the attendees, it was all Pitt Stadium. Not sure if this was to hold more fans or if their part time lease at Forbes ran out. Even box seats at Forbes were uncomfortable wooden fold up chairs but did have a seat back. It was great when they invented the portable seat back and cushion that you could clamp onto a wooden bleacher for added comfort. Sitting on those early cushions in winter though was just like sitting on a block of ice.

Ironically, it was the name "Buddy Dial" that got me permanently banned from the old team sponsored Steeler message board. Apparently, I found out later, we were not allowed to use any past or present Steeler player names in our screen name. They could have simply told me that when I signed up, but no, after I began posting I suddenly got the permanent boot period! Thank you TTF for being so practical and not perpetuating that barbarian culture from the past. Ferris Bueller (aka Steve A) - you're my hero! :dancing:

Naa, I like Hargrave, if AB can be on the list, so can Gravedigger.

I appreciate your point of view. Chad Brown played elsewhere. Plaxico won his ring with the Giants. James with the Lions. Thigpen with the Titans. Not to mention JH, Randle El with the Skins, Franco, etc. Should I not use AV with #78? Pro football Reference rates Hargrave as the third best player to where #79 for the Steelers.

Not that I have any skin in it, but I took the point to be that Gravedigger is currently playing for another team.
