Since Leveon Bell came into the league, the Steelers are 17-0 when he has 23 or more rushing attempts.
You would think Haley and Tomlin would realize this and stick with this overwhelming evidence on how to win games. 2 times is a coincidence, 3 times is a pattern, 17 times is just too obvious.
    23 is the magic number.

Yes keep running. It was nice seeing Nix out there. These little glimpses of power football are going to also open up the play action deep ball..... If Ben can hit them.

    Egg... Chicken....

Is it because he runs a lot that we win or because he is able to run?

One could draw a parallel to our pass defense. We have the top ranked pass defense, but this could easily be more a function of how well teams have run against us so why bother with a higher risk pass.

Not every team has run well against the Steelers. The Bears were the only team to do it consistently. Even the Jaguars did very little running the ball until the fourth quarter, and those numbers are skewed by the 90-yard run when the game was already out of reach.

Of course, it does help that Smith is the only good quarterback the Steelers have faced so far this season.

The statistic in the opening post of this thread is a bit misleading, but the point stands. The Steelers have given up on the run too easily more than once this season and that was part of what cost them the game against the Jaguars.

There is always stuff to this. I love stats like this, these seem like coincidences but are more like mortal locks.

Like, for example, can't recall the numbers, but the Steelers had a great winning % under Cowher when they scored at least 21 points.

EDIT- looked up, 106-21-1 was that record.

Agree.... IMO a stat like *this* is less coincidental: "Cowher's team had compiled a record of 108–1–1 in games in which they built a lead of at least 11 points" (from Coach's wikipedia page).

My favorite stat was when Bill Cowher teams had at least an 11 point lead at any point in a game.

    They were

    108-1-1 all time.

Bettis was quite the closer though, he helped a lot.

i'd like to see the rush numbers up and some of the carries for lev bell down. it's a long season and when the big guys are hitting on all cylinders we need to use all the backs.

I think this is now Bell's team, not Ben's. As Bell and the O-line go, so goes the offense. Ben just needs to be OK and not screw things up. I hope Haley realizes this.
