He desperately wanted to set the Steelers up with their next franchise QB on his way out the door.

How is it Kahn's fault that Colbert sucked?

In fairness, I think you could find entire draft classes just like this, or worse, for every team in the league. Maybe not, but I would be shocked if it wasn't the case.
This example stings more because it's the Steelers.

usually you have a couple players who work out. but this is the fastest to seeing players not work out for our team.

It's not pretty, but not the worst draft the Steelers have had in the modern era.

1983 was pretty calamitous on all levels.

If you apply OPs logic of traded. 2021 just as bad. Harris gone. HoFer Kendrick Pouncey absolutely terrible and ruined Ben’s last season. 2 picks not even in league anymore 4 years later.

2018 was biggest fail and why the team is a mess right now. It takes years for terrible drafts to paint the picture. I remember somebody saying this would happen 6 years ago :whistley:

Then 2019 was equally terrible. But why 2018?

    1) Edmunds sucks! 6 years and still haven’t addressed his position in draft. We had to use a 1st to trade to help address this. So essentially two 1st in 6 years for one safety. We need two… Also, potentially reached on this pick because Tomlin went to college with his mom.

    2) James Washington had great potential but ruined by pick #3. His highlight tape was insane and I had high hopes for him. But why ruined by #3 pick? JW was his #1 WR and had a connection with him. Love him but we all know Ben is selfish. If Ben let JW be great and AB level of confidence it would be Ben’s demise. Because his college QB could come in. Ben knew this.

Ben’s bias towards JW is highlighted to me by the fact… James Washington is a country kid who’s quiet and hard worker. Ben loves to hunt and fish. You telling me these two had nothing to bond over!? I’d question it if JW had a AB or Diontae Johnson ego. This is so obvious to me.

    3) Mason Rudolph. So we got decent return on trading Martavis Bryant and wasted the pick. We had Dobbs. Look, I’m not trying to argue who’s “technically better” My whole point the entire time is if you look at NFL careers they both provided the same. Some would argue Dobbs even more and way more upside. Plus, the fact Mason ruined our #2 pick makes this 100x worse.

    HALF TIME

So if you’re keeping score… This is 4 wasted picks for 1 pro bowl player at this point. Two 1st… Edmunds + 1st to Dolphins for Minkah. JW and Rudolph both ruined by Ben.

    4) Okafor - Possibly best pick and MEH.

    5) Marcus Allen - Terrible. Career special teams player and only on team for so long because he was a “swag curator” He started the take over trap.

    6) Jaylen Samuels - I honestly wanted to see him get some more chances towards the end. But imo coaching ruined him. Waste of pick.

    7) Joshua Frazier - He was some project pick hyped up by a Tomlin coaching hire, Karl Dunbar. Dunbar might honestly be best Tomlin picked coach on staff imo. But this pick was a bust.

So 1 MEH tackle who got released. Essentially 8 picks.. 1 pro bowl safety and this whole draft was a complete bust. Not even one above average player.

2020 and 2018 were not so great either. 1983 was a disaster because of the Rivera accident and passing on Marino. Had Rivera played.... he likely would have had a great career, possibly playing his later years during the Blitzburg era of the 90's.

Very true. However, the rest of the draft was also torrid. I think most of the picks were out of the league after 3-4 years.

Steelers were bad in the '98 & '99 seasons.... but they had some damn good drafts even though Troy Edwards busted after '01. Lots of SBXL and XLIII players in those drafts.

Went back and found this, updating for the recent drafts. A list of picks since 2018, the year in parenthesis is the last year that player played in the NFL (as a Steeler or otherwise).

Shows how bad the drafting was from 2018 - 21. Khan and Weidl appear to be righting the ship, but recovering from that many misses over four consecutive drafts is incredibly difficult to do in short order.

It is pretty bad but this also has some to do with coaches and their ability to develop NFL players. Pickens is as talented as they come but if you can’t control him then the failure is with management.

It’s almost like this forum had somebody predict all this in 2018 and 7 years ago before it all came to fruition. Some would probably call him Nostradamus. Others would pay for that high level of analysis. This forum banned him :whistley:

But I’m sure JEH held it down and brought some real value and insightful analysis during that time.
