I wouldn't call Mendenhall a hit. More like he got hit... one too many times in the head.

 

I was never a Mendenhall fan. After he fumbled in the Superbowl, I really couldn't stand him. The complete whiff on a blocking assignment was actually more to blame than the fumble itself but had he held onto that ball, quite possibly we would have another Lombardi in the trophy case. We had the momentum and that pretty much crushed it.

His 9-11 comment was very insincere.

Agreed. It's the very low standard you have to work with people on here. They're trying to say Edmunds justifies a 1st round pick so you see what we are working with.

very close to that draft a few boards did have edmunds moving to the late first round at the time. i did mention it at the time. so i must be one of those people you are referring to. i still say it's because we missed out on the top safeties the year before by a pick or two in the first couple of rounds so panic set in the following year to take one. we needed one badly at the time. his speed and size were intriguing at the time. similar to davis. i think they looked at speed. both ran in the 4.4's. they are still looking for that LB/S hybrid type of player with speed and size that can stay on the field and cover and play the run. edmunds is improving. it just took a while. they are looking for the next shazier and troy but have come up way short in my opinion. 3 picks for bush. edmunds in the first. both were gambles without the same results.

 

I think the real story here is that SDOT was out to prove Cowher was better at drafting than Tomlin, but still called Kendall Simmons a bust. Shows what we're working with.

 

They would have been better off with Jack Bruce. And Ginger Baker. And Slowhand.
