    Traylon Burks 1

Plenty of other names are being thrown around, but these 5 guys are the only ones that have received votes so far. For those that would like to vote please use the link above so it is easier to count votes.

The only problem is you picked the wrong guy. When I asked for someone to be the tiebreaker, I was assuming they would pick my guy. I demand a recount. :lolol:

Yeah. We go into the season without a Safety, but We have 9 Qbs, and 25 Wrs. Maybe one of them can play SS.

we got 2 strong safeties and marcus allen that was a strong safety and one guy that was a rookie last year from the SEC in stiner. killebrew, karl joseph, stiner, minkah can play both spots, norwood can as well and maulet has played safety. plus we have isaiah johnson that played with the raiders that could be in the mix at least at CB as well. probably big enough to man the safety spot. the cupboard isn't as bare as many think. will we add one? i'm sure but don't think we are destitute without one in the draft. maybe not ideal but we could make do.

So, your standard approach. List every roster player, practice squad player and futures player so that when the next Mike Hilton or James Harrison shows up you can say “I called it.” I seem to remember you doing the same thing last off season with the offensive line, and that unit SUCKED.

Yes elvis I don't remember saying "I called it" like you claim but you always seem to hate these guys I mention but the Steelers seem to keep around and sign back. They just must be morons too I guess for not checking with you first.

Mac I appreciate your optimistic view on the roster. But most of the guys you listed are barely good enough to be camp fodder let alone steady contributers. If the Steelers go with Killebrew and Steiner next to Minkah the Steelers are in big trouble.

Every team fills out their offseason/camp roster to the allowed numbers to have enough bodies to get through camp and preseason, and yes, to try to find and develop the occasional diamonds in the rough. If a team relies on that process to fill out its final 53, and especially its starting roster, it’s going to have at least 10x more misses than hits. The offseason roster will always have numerous players for every position grouping. It doesn’t mean that all, or even a tenth, of those players are NFL game day talent. There’s a big difference between bringing those unproven players in to try to develop them and counting on them to be capable starters. It’s not that I “hate” the players. Far from it. I’m just realistic about the odds of any of them being the next Mike Hilton or James Harrison, and about what roles they can actually fill on an NFL roster. Usually the best you get from a few of those guys is what we got last year from LeGlue and Haeg. Adequate as backups, but not guys that you want to put on the field for 1,000 snaps.

Norwood is promising, but not as a strong/box safety. That’s not his game at all. Joseph had the chops in college, but he’s been a fixture on IR for his entire career in the NFL. Killebrew is a proven and valuable special teamer, but hasn’t shown that’s he anything more than adequate roster depth on defense. Marcus Allen was moved to LB because he is completely inept in every aspect of pass coverage beyond a few yards off the line of scrimmage. He is what he is, and what he is is not a capable NFL safety.

didn't they re-sign karl joseph too? i'm pretty sure. both he and killebrew have played in the nfl for awhile. the steelers used them some last year so both are familiar with the coaches and the scheme. do we really think a rookie will step in and be ready? even troy didn't start right away.

i also never said once we would go with just these guys. this was to STD saying we have no strong safeties on the team. i just pointed out we do.

as for stiner. the kid showed a little last preseason. even had a pick if i remember right. the steelers kept him around last year and have kept him around this year. the steelers of any team out there use from their PS and futures picks. they actually bring these players along with intent of future use in many cases. they have for some time. there are articles written about them doing that. i'm not sure why this is such a hard pill to swallow for many on here when i mention some of these guys.

they had AV, feiler and foster and finney for years as starters. that's where those guys came from. they were a pretty good line. the trouble last year with the line as elvis said sucked, were in fact made up of mostly draft picks and mr. pro bowl trai turner. so lets blame the backups. if you all remember later in the year after our o-line coach bailed the line had a couple of decent games with hassenauer and leglue playing and even haeg. dotson was healthy. green was healthy. turner and okrafor continued to suck. ray ray mc cloud was such a guy and he started over our 2nd round draft pick.

the league is made up of these UDFA players at about 30+%. more then mid to late round picks make the rosters. hate on me and them if you all want but it is what it is.

i also said norwood could move to minkah's role and minkah can play either spot back there. they have options compared to what STD said that we have no strong safeties on the team. not true we do. let's face it not even troy started as a rookie right off the bat. stiner looked actually pretty decent last preseason. they kept him around. maybe just maybe they think he may have some upside as depth. they did use killebrew later in the season quite a bit in some games. if they thought there was no hope for any of these guys i'm sure the steelers are smart enough to replace one or two of these guys before it became a hopeless cause. they didn't. in fact they kept them all. are they so stupid that they think a starter may not get hurt during the year and they may have to use one of these guys? i can hear them now, OMG we didn't actually plan on this fodder to have to actually play at some point, we were just filling out roster spots for preseason. we are morons. we never thought past our new draft pick. DUH.

You never know. They did it with the o-line last year. At least Colbert admitted making a mistake of not getting more depth for the o-line.
