Yup. Not to mention 49ers and Bengals each finished last in their divisions last season and both are in the conference championship game. Bengals already had a QB in place but 49ers are doing it with Jimmy G.

Fair enough but we need a QB better than Mason to even be taken seriously. I just don’t think we address it until next years draft assuming we bomb and are a top 10 pick. We have so many holes to fill this season we can’t reach on a QB

How about Steve Young? Ran out of the NFL when he plaid in Tampa, because he sucked. Then went to SF and sat the bench for 3 year before finally getting to start because of an injury.

Tell me how Mason is not currently as good as Young was in Tampa Bay? I mean good God he was terrible. Threw 2 Ints for every touchdow. Sacked about 4 times every game. And fumbled the ball about every game. So, it looks like he would turn the ball over about twice a game.

I have to figure out a way to get back on the Mason/Canada bandwagon I was on last offseason.

People who don't know anything about Steve Young shouldn't talk about him.

In between being the runner-up for the Heisman and a HOF QB with the 49ers Steve Young struggled on the Buccaneers.

Did you ever think that it might be the Buccaneers?!

Was Young great, then terrible, then great? Or were the Buccaneers in the 70s, 80s and 90s terrible?

What. Young was terrible when he played for Tampa. Some where out their is QB coach that coached his ass off to get Young into the HOF!

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to looks at these stats and say "Boooooo. That QB sucks, get him off this team ASAP".

Yeah, stats. You should apply to be a PFF analyst.

How did Young have immediate success in SF throwing 10 TD 0 INT his first season? SF's QB coach coached up Young in one pre-season?

It wasn't at TB because they wouldn't have run him out. You said he was awful.

Steve Young says he hasn't changed his throwing motion since college when he learned from Jim McMahon. So according to you he is lying and some unnamed QB coach deserves all the credit.

I am not calling him a liar, but you do see in 1988 with SF he was right back to his bad self. As many Ints as TD, and almost twice as many fumbles as TDs.

So, I would say Young was worse than Heisman winner Tim Tebow when he first played.

If it wasn't mechanics than it had to be mental, but something changed in his game.

You just know more about football than Bill Walsh. He saw Steve Young and knew he was a talented player being used incorrectly; when the reality is some mystery QB coach whispered a magic spell in Young's ear and made him an all-time great.

Why are you trolling in thread about TJ Watt's legendary DPOY season?

Actually I think it was a little bit of both. I think if Young was forced 2 start automatically at 49ers He would have been better than He was at the Bucs, but not as good as He ended up being. Sitting behind Joe M., being coach by great coaches, and all the 49ers talent sure fired helped.

There's no doubt being on a team surrounded by talent helped. Same thing applies to Ben, Aikman, Bradshaw, Peyton etc.

Not just that. I think being behind Joe, watching one of the greatest group of coaching innovators, and learning from them helped.

It couldn't have hurt. Walsh picked Young for his foot work and mobility in running the WCO. Throwing to Rice, Jones, Taylor, Watters etc. didn't hurt behind that OL.

I think Brice was just trolling. Don't know why.

If Ben had played for the 85 Bucs he'd have looked trash too.
