To be fair, drafting talent in the secondary has always been our weak spot. Sure we nailed it with Troy, Keenan Lewis and Ike. But along with those there are Bryant McFadden, Ricardo Colclough, Hank Poteat, Scott Shields, Joe Burnett, Crezdon Butler…

i think so too.[mcfadden] you might add deshea townsnd, chris hope, chad scott, deion figures to name just a few. also some real low rounders who could start on this team and help.

plus one significant difference. players like shields etc did not stick around long check out the drafts since 92 notice the huge difference.

everyone knows the recent results. no need to rehash bad news.

one more thing. my worst fear when cowher left was the defense drafting. one of colbert's strong suits was offense no doubt. at 1st it was unnoticeable but then ????

That is not correct. His was a salary issue. They intended to resign him.

I though it was Wallace but I could be mistaken. For some reason I thought Lewis got in the doghouse about something also.

That would be asking him to take a pay cut and restructuring the contracct. I think the browns felt they had younger cheaper corners (they can find them easy than we can). They also thought he was injury prone.

To get Ward the Steelers just needed to draft#4 overall instead of Edmunds at 28

To get Humphrey just us to get to #16 instead of drafting TJ Watt at 30

Notice the picks. 28. .30... the draft might be more fun when you draft on the top half but the season is not.

    Top two sack leaders

Browns drafted GARRETT #1 Steelers got TJ #30

The Browns went 1-15 to get him

The Steelers were 1 game from the Super Bowl to get TJ

Edmonds I think they thought he was going to be as good as his brother that plays for the Bills.
Sean Davis played a bit as a rookie and didn t look too bad but regressed every year after.
Every ones favorite bust Artie Burns was exactly as his college draft profile said. Good size and length, decent closing speed better at man to man coverage.
On the negative side Gets lost or confused in zone assignments and makes poor adjustments to the ball.
The Steelers used him in zone coverage and his technique never improved then his confidence was ruined and he was done.
I might be the only one but I thought it was all the result of bad coaching and using him in the wrong scheme.

The Bills and NE both seem to be able to find good DB's. The Bills problems have been that thee Bills were so bad for so long some of their better DB's left to play elsewhere.
As much as I hate NE I don't hear anyone ever saying their secondary sucks. When they find a great DB if he asks for the moon they let him go and plug in another.

I think the Steelers reach too often and keep drafting projects. Even Bud Dupree ( I know not a DB ) was a raw physical specimen. Yeah he turned out to be very good but to get there it cost them three years of under performing to get three years of good.

Any 1st round pick should be a difference maker and a starter by year 2, anything less is a miss. Your talking about the best 32 players in all of college football.

I agree with a lot here, but if You go Look a very many of the NE CBs they didn't draft, they either traded for, or got in free agency.
Also they ran as much as they could Man with Burns, but You can only do that so much before You put the rest of the team D in jeopardy. Can't be ok Well always Burns will be the Man Guy.
