I'm sure some fans in Carolina may glad to have Cam Newton back, but I believe his antics are toxic. Between him running around the field screaming "I'm baa-aack!" and his antics in the post-game press conferences shows that he thinks he is bigger than the team. During pre-game shows they say Cam felt he learned so much of how to carry himself as a professional while with the Patriots and that he was a changed man. That all went out the window and he showed his true self.

I'm gonna guess that Matt Rhule didn't want the headache, but this decision to bring back Cam was probably thrust upon him by management.

Him yelling I'm back isn't toxic at all. Every single player celebrates when they score. Celebrations are almost always about the individual. Cam didn't do anything different than any other player when they celebrate a TD.

As for his post game stuff, I didn't see it so have no comment. Cam has always had a flair for the dramatic though. He's not a guy I would want to build around, although I don't know if it's necessarily toxic.

I wouldn’t call it toxic, more attention whoring. He’s fallen out of my favor over the years. One of those guys who started to look at his game as a “brand” rather than trying to grow professionally.

I think what will ultimately prove to be “toxic” in Carolina is his lack of polish as an NFL QB on the field. Yeah, he’ll have the occasional game where things come together him, but he’s just not that good over the course of a season.

    interesting.

someone on this board actually acknowledges what a gm does and what a coach does

Exactly. No way a Guy that Has had a top 10 D every year He's been in the League only has 3 winning Seasons besides He's the problem. Yes He had a Great Magical Year, but that's all it was.

I guess that's why the coach never makes pro day visits, skips the combine, never interviews free agents...

    Oh, wait...

As per the norm you’re lost. Wether or not a coach pays visits to pro days, combine etc is irrelevant. General managers assemble the team. One of our ardent tomlin is the devil members actually acknowledged that fact. Of course he/she/it won’t ever acknowledge it’s the same in Pittsburgh.

Even though Cam is a total "look at me guy" who seems selfish and arrogant, Carolina did him wrong when the whole regime changed. Now this is kind of poetic justice.

That said, he does have a troubled past with pay-for-play in college, stealing and leaving FL before he got kicked out. He seems to get weirder by the day. Don't be surprised if he does some AB type bonkers sh!t.

I partially agree. Cam didn't have the weapons to throw to after Steven Smith left and that contributed to Carolina's issues.

Cam had one of the worst games in NFL history today. 5 for 21, 92 yards and 2 picks.

Newton's a bum. He underscores all anyone needs to know about how bad the bottom third of QB's are in this league.

I read that He could have thrown the ball into the ground on every snap He had , and still would have had a better Qb rating than He did. LoL.

Every situation is different. In a successful situation it is a collaboration. To think that Tomlin doesn't have a fair bit of say in how the roster is assembled is just silly. To think that he is the end all be all and makes all the decisions is also silly.

jesus tap dancing Christ y’all are hilarious. Colbert is Tomlin’s boss. They work together, but Colbert is his boss and has final say. There’s one exception to that and it’s in NE where belichek plays both coach and gm.

You’re almost right. If you had written “I don’t think” then you would have been spot on.

who hired tomlin? Colbert. Tomlin’s boss

Not since he wouldn't dive for his own fumble in the Super Bowl.

Newton reminds me of Chara: he loves to push around the little guys but backs down from anyone approaching his own size. Newton would look for contact with a DB but won't even recover his own fumble if a DL is there.
