I hope we get a chance to see Mason this year, though, because other young, abandoned QBs may be available in the Spring. If the D is top notch next year and Mason is still mediocre, it might prompt them to make yet another previously unprecedented move.

Right. This is one of the reasons I wanted Ben to retire, get released, traded or sent to the Island of Misfit Toys.

I've seen enough of Mason & i think the front office has too. Let alone most Steeler fans. Csnada is going to need an upgrade from the Reindeer.

Apparently Stephen A is seeing things for what they really are too. Again, I'm not a Cam fan by any stretch, but he does suck less than modern day Ben. Sad but true ..

Stephen A. Smith has message for Steelers: Call Cam Newton

Ben Roethlisberger is banged up heading into Week 3, and Stephen A. Smith believes there is an obvious insurance policy sitting out there for the Pittsburgh Steelers that they have yet to capitalize on.

During Thursday’s edition of ESPN’s “First Take,” Smith said he is baffled that the Steelers have not yet reached out to Cam Newton.

“He can run with the football. Granted, he’s not as mobile as he used to be, but he’s considerably more mobile than Ben Roethlisberger and he’s younger,” Smith said. “So the combination of those two, with Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins as your options, why hasn’t Cam been called already? That’s how I’m looking at it.”

Newton remains a free agent after he was released by the New England Patriots prior to Week 1. As Smith mentioned, the Steelers already have Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins on their roster. Haskins was said to have impressed the team during training camp, but head coach Mike Tomlin had a harsh assessment of him after the final preseason game.

Roethlisberger has played through numerous injuries during his career, and he will likely try to do the same with his pectoral muscle injury.

Newton may not even want to sign with the Steelers if Roethlisberger is going to play. Unless he has an opportunity to start, Newton doesn’t have much financial incentive to play this season.

 Mason is a much better option than Cam. Steven seems to be color coordinated in this assessment, not all trolls dig this deep though.

I'm not impressed by Smith, and think it might be wiser to do the opposite of what he says.
(To be fair, I have even less respect for the other talking heads on his shows.)

The few times I've seen him (on the TV while waiting for an appointment), he starts off with an opinion.
While I'm waiting to hear his reasons to support that opinion, he instead stacks more opinions on top of that.
He builds a house of cards, where you can't remember what is actually fact versus something he just made up.
To back up his claims, he then gets louder and blusters more.

I realize that is what passes for a reasoned argument for many talk shows nowadays (sports or political), but it annoys rather than persuades me.
