We also have a franchise QB who quite simply has not been good enough in the playoffs over the last decade. Maybe that is the fault of Tomlin and the OCs over the years but the QB should also take some of the heat. Since 2010 Ben has 15 TDs and 12 INTs in the playoffs and a passer rating in the high 80s. That isn't going to win you many Super Bowls unless the defense plays lights out every game.

There is no contradiction. Tomlin runs on machismo and platitudes. "Next man up." "Beat your man." Etc. That's not coaching. There's a reason most of his praise comes in the form of "guys will run through walls for him". Awesome, they'll still fail to get a ring unless they have good scheme guys working the coordinator positions, because Tomlin isn't bringing anything like that to the table.

If you're the type to think moving Watt inside a couple of times or rotating DL is "scheme" and somehow worthy of praise, then there's no point in this discussion.

I'll be the first to say that if what Chris Simms is saying is true than it is a big deal because it is the first real instance where Tomlin broke from the norm and they did concern themselves with what other teams do. We aren't talking about a shift on the backend like they did to beat the Pats several years ago but a pre-planned effort on both sides of the ball to address the opponent on opening day with halftime adjustments as well.

    This is you, right?

Now go look up what contradiction means.

You’re right about one thing, no need to continue this conversation.

Right, and Chuks killed the run game and was bad in pass pro, and the D gave up 117 yards on 25 carries.

I’d like to believe they scheme and game plan every game. I’d like to think that most of what Tomlin says in that regard it’s just gamesmanship and coach speak to throw the other team off.

We have had that discussion before and while I think they have always planned since Tomlin became head coach I don't think it was specific to the weekly opponent and geared more towards this is what we are going to do and they need to try and stop us. We have also witnessed instances where you know they completely disregarded what they were facing and taking advantage of it. This game it appears that they did develop a plan on both sides.

The schemes aren't the same, In Butler's schemes the OLBs aren't dropping in coverage as much as they used to, also in Butler's scheme the DL gets after the QB more. In recent years both Heyward and Tuitt had double digit sack seasons.

I knew there was something about this post that wasn't right. I'm not one of the most viral posters on here, but I'm always here, even (and especially) around draft time. I'm being "guaranteed" to disappear by someone who joined 10 years ago (one month before I did) and has a blistering 200 posts. You average 1 every two and a half weeks, and about half of them have been in this thread. And I'm the one who's going to disappear? Jackwagon.

Not today. We didn’t have a good game plan at all. Im sure the rash of injuries had an impact.
