I know our OL isn't great, but I have to say I'm a little disappointed in Najee Harris so far. He looks a lot closer to Najeh Davenport than the Najee Harris I saw at Alabama.

It's early, but unless our OL improves greatly this year I think he has a pretty pedestrian season. I think 800-900 yards rushing 6-8 TDs. Maybe 300-400 yards receiving.

First round RBs are a risk for this reason -- heavily OL dependent and short lifespan.

I tend to be VERY against taking a RB in round 1, but I have not seen a single “I told you so” moment regarding Najee’s performance to date. Time will tell, but he looks like a heck of a player to me (so far).

I have no idea what games you are watching, but it wasn't the ones with Najee Harris at running back for the Steelers.

He hasn't really had the ball enough to make any judgements yet, but he has more than passed the eye test so far.

You said what I've been trying not to think. I really like this kid for his character, love of the game, and potential ability. I can't get a read on him. He seems like he's got it all put togehter and is ready for a great season. But he hasn't ran wild against any defense so far, and unfortunately, he hasn't seen a complete, day 1 defense. And then there's this OL. Has he not set the world on fire because of them or is it more him? And will he run behind a competent OL at all this season? Big, big question mark.

All that said, I'm glad we got him. Even if his numbers are pedestrian this season, it's just what we have to live with. Next season, however, should see a much improved OL and he'll be set up to go off.

Well, as long as Najee doesn't take a dump in anybody's closet, I think I'll stick with him over "Pooper Scooper" Davenport.

He hasn't ran wild on any defense, because he barely has any rushing attempts, some fans expect him to break a long run when he only has a few carries a game .

His successful run rate in the preseason is 61%, according to SteelersDepot. 50% would be fantastic. If you don't know what a successful run is, here is a primer.

Najee Harris is not designed a home run threat Running Back; a major misconception about the whole aspect of a Feature Back. Feature Backs have been historically known to wear down defenses due in part to the rhythm they operate in. In addition, the rhythm of a Running Back is no longer solely tied to just totting the rock; receiving now a major aspect as well.

Once the Defense gets fatigued enough, the big runs soon follow. Najee is designed to wear down defenses in different ways. That is where one of his many strengths comes into play. The Offensive Line plays an important role in this as well but the Running Back has to be just as effective as the blockers in front of him for the ground game to properly operate.

In short?! Expecting Najee to bust 10 to 20+ yard runs is quite unreasonable as there are too many factors going into just one of those said runs. For Najee to be effective, multiple runs of 4 yards minimum is essential. The big runs will soon come thereafter.

In the preseason? Yep. Far too many. Bullet dodged, now we can hope he's not getting tread-wearing, 4-minute drive carries if/when the Steelers are up 3 scores late.

He's an indispensable part of the team playing a position that carries more injury risk than most.

I just spit my coffee. I had forgotten about that incident.
It’s a good thing he wasn’t named Najeh Closet or he might have done it on the davenport.
I recall jokes of the time that he should have worn jersey #2, could change direction so quickly that he left skid marks, etc. etc…….
The Steelers’ running game was quite awful last year, they overhauled the Oline and got the best running back available. I am looking forward to seeing how well they play together as a unit.

While splash plays are nice what they really need from Najee Harris is to be part of the solution to make this offence more efficient in terms of down and distance, and to open up play action to lighten the box and take the pressure off the OLine. They were in third and long far too often last season because they couldn’t run the ball and were dependent on the predictable short underneath stuff.

I think Claypool is going to be very important in this new offence and in Najees success. If Ben can start hitting him down the field teams will be very slow to stack the box against the steelers. It would make everyone’s job easier.
