We'd have a better chance with Hines Ward, Jerome Bettis and Ryan Shazier back for the 2021 season than having those 3 mentioned.

Not even funny. Avery is plausible I guess, I mean Spillane didn't exactly set the world on fire last night.

I think Spillane's body of work is going to be entirely dependent on the cast around him. If he has Fitz and Bush and Watt and the rest he will look good. Put him in a game with second and 3rd String players and he will be exposed in coverage.

Burns and Bell? Gee, and I suppose this guy fancies himself as a ‘journalist’.

I think he's going to be exposed in coverage regardless of supporting cast, but you're right, he'll be better with the starters around him. He was good last season, not great, but good. And he showed signs of being better than good at times. I don't think he's regressed since last season. I mean, unless he's injured, how could he? He should be better, if only marginally. And I said it earlier, I wasn't looking at individual, stand-out performances last night. I was looking at the overall performance from a wider lense. How did they play the scheme? What was the focus of the unit? Did it perform adequately? So I'm only going to complain about that stuff. I don't care that he didn't look good in coverage. First preseason game.

That was my approach to watching the offense as well. After reading and watching the article on Behind the Steel curtain where they looked at Canada's use of jet motion last season and seeing guys struggling to grasp some of the concepts such as Vance not realizing he had no one in 10 feet of him so he could have sat down in the zone caught a pass and made some YAC he runs himself into coverage in the endzone. So I was looking to see if they were getting what Canada is teaching and yes there were hiccups but you could see flashes.

That's why I don't read most of this junk. These guys have no idea what the hell they're talking about. Bell is a has been. Burns is a never was. They probably have the someone on the roster that can perform at least as good as Williamson, just not as experienced. That author seems more suited to penning pulp science fiction articles.

Since it is a silly article I'll name my 3. Jack Lambert, Lynn Swann (he'll catch those crazy passes Ben throws) and Mel Blount. (minus the rule)

I thought Spillane was better than Williamson last year. Williamson is a sure tackler but otherwise does nothing well. He'd be fine as depth but I don't think he starts over Spillane, not that he's all that great either.

Was this meant to be a joke?
If I hear one more mention of bringing Bell back, my head will explode like that guy in the movie Scanners. Bell not only burned bridges behind him, he nuclear bombed them.
I didn’t like Artie Burnt even while he was here, and after a torn ACL? Pass.
Williamson might be a good idea, and if another ILB goes down he might be the best option available.

Not sure who Scott Rogust is, but he seems to have taken one to many blows to the head.
