when we draft 2nd rd. talent, it's not for ST's. what does cotchery only catching 20 balls have to do with sweed? cotchery made some clutch catches as a steeler already and minimizing what he's done to bring back a loser that can't fit in in this league is really not making your point here. not 1 of 32 nfl teams wants sweed. 1 does want cotchery and 1 does want nate washington. that's all i can say. pittsburgh isn't a home for wayward players. i can't believe this is still going on.

Cotchery has not done squat man...heck he tripped over the 5 yard line the last time he caught the bask.....cotchery has less catches than wallace has drops against the bengals.

I like them both...but cotchery is basically done....he is ward..a safety net at best. I feel Sweed could be the better fit here under Haley.

I think the fact that Burfict kept his composure after getting the rub-out by Colon speaks volumes to how he has re-directed himself. Sure a hot-head would have gone off after something like that. Ike would have, and likely got ejected. Several of our other players would have at least got a penalty had something like that happened to them.

I enjoy your post though I don't always agree. I see your point and its very logical from a athletic only point of view. And I'll add you are smarter than your interpretation of my post.

I'm saying I like who we drafted in the 7th for their position of need and chance to either make our 53 or PS for development. There is a reason why a early pre-draft prospect was projected as a 1st rnder but then went undrafted. EVERY NFL team rejected him Every round including the bungles, raiders and cowboys.

I agree burfict has more potential to be a NFL starter than our 7th rnd choices but he also has proven he also has just as much of a chance to be that cancer, maybe more so.

You may have a point here. But it was just on play. T.O. behaved himself too, but for just a small part of a season, before his old self re-appeared.

I actually hope he does stay right and keeps his head in the game and becomes that person who royally screwed up but was able to overcome and rise up.

Cotchery is much more than just a receiver. He is the mentor on and off the field to our very young and super talented WR corp. I read an article somewhere about this ( maybe steelerdepot ) and was very impressed. He's bigger, faster and younger than Ward ( and MUCH Cheaper) and has very good hands. You are not gonna get much production from your 4th WR. Sanders-Brown-Wallace are no doubt the THREATS or Weapons we have. Miller and now included Paulson are also Ben's underneath go to guys.

Cotchery isn't done, he has a role on this team, knows it and accepts it.

Sweed- that man was talented as far as being able to get open and just like Nate Washington ( and now maybe Wallace too ) had issues catching the ball. A WR MUST catch the ball, its their number one job and if he can't do that then he needs to play defense. Nate has gotten a little better as wallace seems to be getting worst. Sweed has NEVER been consistant catching the ball but my question here is how can he be a better fit here if he's a head case, not able to make ANY clubs roster or PS due to his "issues" whatever they may be? That can't be dismissed.

not this year. YET. last year he came through pretty big when called on.

there are tons of receivers out there that didn't make it into the NFL and i'm sure alot of them could be good if given the chance. heck look at sanders and brown. they were not high on the list during the draft and we hit a homerun with both of them. something was amiss with sweed. i don't know if he wouldn't work hard. smarted off to the wrong person or whatever it was but when no team is willing to take a gamble on such a talent, then there is something wrong. maybe he's just not as talented as a complete receiver. maybe his work ethic just stinks. maybe he is a real head case. that one i kind of doubt because alot of teams take chances on head cases if they are highly talented. burfict is in that range.

we just didn't want the headache that goes with him i guess. beating a teamate like he did and blaming coaches for his problems is not a recipe for success when you want to be drafted into the NFL. there are hundreds of guys that can play this game, but sometimes they just aren't worth the risk or time.

and my entire point is that sometimes they ARE worth the time, and risk......especially when the risk is NOTHING but TIME.

Burfict or Frederick? Who would be helping this team more right now today?
Burfict or Clemons? Who would be helping this team more right now today?
Burfict or Beachum? Who would be helping this team more right now today?
Burfict or Paulson? Who would be helping this team more right now today?

Or even better next year...when Foote is a FA......We were looking to take a Hightower an ILB in the first round....because we desperately need a talented ILB.....Burfict in the first? Wow...that is a lot of risk.....Burfict in the 7th....no risk....7th rounders cut easy....we cut them every year.

You take Burfict in the 7th...you don't have to draft another ILB in 2013.....now you don't have that choice....you have to spend one of your top 3 picks in the middle...unless you go FA.....My guess is they have no choice but to sign Foote for another year or two (his play has warranted it to date)

    HACK

EDIT: Cotchery.....20 games....19 catches....2 TD's.......I like the guy.....but I would cut him tomorrow if it meant getting a 6'4" jumper with some wheels.

Burfict refused to run the 40 yard dash at the combine providing no excuses for not doing so and that killed him for being seriously look at in the draft. It'd be like going to a job interview and kicking your feet up on the employers desk. Don't know why he thought he had so much leeway but you can't really fault teams for not paying much attention to him come draft time.

I get that but why risk a pick on Burfict when you need other positions drafted AND you already drafted his position ( ILB ) with a high middle round in sean spence who they are high on.

Again, what Cotchery brings to the table cannot be minimized to the TEAM concept and development of a very young WR corp and by the way, there were tall WRs out there via UFA and the draft and even on our 90 man roster but thankfully our FO puts more weight into a players attributes than just tall jumping skills or speed.

Tall Jumping and Speed....means getting open at the NFL level......Its why Megatron is virtually uncoverable.......Your target zone gets very LARGE with a larger WR who can leap......and I am not even referring to Sweed.

Cotchery brings nothing that Ward did not bring...and they wanted nothing to do with Ward at the end.....

I love them both...but they are what they are.

I would have picked Burfict over Spence....and was on record as saying so......Spence was a HUGE question mark before the injury. I saw nothing from him that says even with a full recovery he is anything more than Sly 2.0

Not necessarily, there's alot of tall jumping speedsters who haven't made it in the NFL while people like welker and Cruz shine bright. Your point here is understandable because when you do get that special T,J speedster like Megatron or Randy Moss in the day you have virtually and unstoppable weapon.

Again cotchery is younger, bigger, stronger and faster than Ward. Ward was done, he had a great career. One that Cotchery won't come close to But he is currently a upgrade to Ward right now. Cotchery fulfills his role perfectly and I'll go as far as to say if Wallace fullfilled his role as well as Cotchery fulfills his then Wallace would probably get that LF money.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on burfict. More than talent is needed to build a championship team. It helps but you need more. The eagles are finding that out as is the cowgirls the last several years. I didn't know much about spence and thought as many did he may be that LB/Safety tweener. They say his quickness and smarts is what makes him excel, something Timmons lacks. I hate he got injuryed so bad, he may never be the same player or have the potential he once did. I didn't get a chance to see much from him but the Team sure had high expectations for him, he must have impressed some-one.

Colon was a wild man and Burfict knew he would get his a@@ handed to him if the retaliated. Colon looked like a crazed killer on bath salts lol

You guys know that Colon got a WHOLE DREAD LOCK RIPPED OUT DURING THAT GAME RIGHT? That's probably why he was so mad. He wouldn't say who done it but just that he think that he "knows" who done it.

You people amaze me. It if he is... Getting a starter for 3 years for a 7th round pick is AWESOME.

Who was the last 7th rounder to make our roster? Kiesel?

I don't know squat about the guy and never eveen heard of him until he was the one man wrecking crew for the Bengals defense against the Steelers but I would take that bet any day of the week.
