Should the Steelers try to re-sign Steven Nelson?

You could be right but we really don’t know for sure.

I had always assumed they were trying to get his cap number down either by a pay cut or void year extension etc, that wasn’t what Steven Nelson wanted and things escalated from there. That’s what was widely speculated at the time, but again, we don’t know.

Telling him to seek a trade was a cop out, if they’d wanted to trade him they’d have made the calls themselves to see what the level of interest was.

LMAO...I'm so sorry for not basing my opinions of the NFL on HBO. But hey, if that's what you need to feel relevant, more power to ya. :roflmao:

It was basically a way of telling him that he wasn't wanted, which I think was a mistake.

Maybe Nelson was lying. Maybe they did ask him to take a pay cut and he said no. If I remember correctly, the Steelers never commented either way.

Actually, my point was that even the most casual fan knows that such meetings happen. Teams even allow them to be shown on television, so it is truly embarrassing for you that you didn't know it.

If he did not want to restructure his contract then big mistake for him. Going from $7m to a base pay of $2.5m with incentives to earn up to $4.125m is a pay cut whether he accepts it or not.

I think they had to wait until they got the official reduced salary cap number, maybe that's why they didn't release him right after the season

It is possible that both the Steelers and Nelson made mistakes. In fact, I think that's exactly what happened.
