Millions of dollars does a lot to heal a bruised ego.

The ego thing works both ways. Colbert/Tomlin made the statement by releasing him that they can develop their own guys to be better than Nelson. If they reach out to Nelson now, it makes them look like they thought they were wrong.

Only if they pay him the same or more than his previous contract.
A discount wouldn't bruise their egos at all.

the availability may now be in question, he's been booked for burglary domestic violence in WA. Being looked at as a felony.

Did I have to spell out the "for a lot cheaper" part? Apparently so.

That's why it wouldn't be an admission that the team made a mistake if they try to re-sign him now, as long as the contract is for significantly less money than he had been due to make before they cut him loose.

The post I quoted didn’t say anything about “for a lot cheaper”

Only got $4m in the end after leaving $8m on the table with the Steelers, albeit they were looking for him to take a pay cut by all accounts.

Genuinely have no malice towards him and hope it works out for him but he really should have worked things out with the Steelers. Both are a bit worse off for the way they parted imo

Many players fare worse when they decline what the Steelers offer them.

The Steelers didn't offer him anything. Unless Nelson was lying, the Steelers didn't give him the opportunity to take a pay cut. They told him to seek a trade, then cut him loose. If that's true, it was probably a mistake. Maybe he wouldn't have accepted a cut to $4 million then, but they should have tried.

In the days prior to allowing him to seek a trade Nelson was referring to an upcoming meeting with the steelers on his Twitter iirc, the meeting did not go well from his POV it seems.

He stated afterwards on his Twitter that he was willing to look at an extension that would reduce his 2021 cap hit. The team won’t comment of course, Nelson was clearly pi##ed with them, therefore his account of how it all unfolded is unreliable at best.

He wanted an extension and said he outplayed his contract (indicating he wanted more money).

He didn't leave $8m on the table with the Steelers, he was never going to get salary in 2021, especially with the salary cap being reduced and them wanting Sutton to start at outside CB.

To which the Steelers could have told him no. Again, the team didn't offer him anything. They really have to stop being so damn afraid of guys being a little unhappy.

I don’t know @steelersrule6 there clearly was a meeting with the team in relation to his contract. Whatever was discussed is between Steven Nelson and the team.

If they had always planned to release or trade him why not just do it straight after the season. Why wait and why meet with him? I think it’s fair to assume they may have been open to keeping him him under certain terms but Nelson was never going to agree to those terms.

Scribelogic: The Steelers meet with a cornerback to talk about his future with the team and don't put an offer on the table.

(Just a little bit of reality for ya, buddy. The team doesn't need to meet with a player to not make an offer)

I guess you've never seen Hard Knocks. Teams have meetings with players like that all the time. They told him to try to find a team that would trade for him and that they were going to cut him rather than pay him what he had left on his contract. That is not making an offer.

Next time you try to lecture someone else about reality, you should make sure you actually know what the hell you are talking about. In this case, you did not.
