That should have been his attitude since day 1.

When I saw the title "Edmunds on the verge of big payday", I thought this would be about his brother Termaine in Buffalo - who really is on the verge of a big payday.

But hey: He's just like Ben. Best shape of his life, mad at the world, chip on his shoulder. A "we'll show the world" attitude on this team that I haven't seen since July 2020.

So what he is saying is now that it is his contract year, he is going to "double down and put in the hard work". From the statement I can only conclude that in his previous years that he wasn't "doubling down and putting in the hard work".
Like groutbrook stated this should have been his attitude since the day they drafted him.

Edmunds took a step forward last year. I hope that trend continues.

What happened to the days when players were smart enough to say..."I dont care about the contract. My goal is to help the team win." Even if it's not true, the optics are alot better than saying you are playing for a big contract.

All the work in the world won't help his reaction time as a deep Safety..He fails to recognize fast enough and he doesn't have quick enough hips to open the gate and get to the spot.

His response should have been I hope my DC plays me in the Box and when in coverage I get to play press man on slower types of guys..This will make me look great and increase my future value...

I agree and disagree at the same time..lol. As any type of Deep Safety no way ,but as a box force play man on bigger guys then yes..I think he is a below average deep Safety and could be elite as a SS/LB ..IMO he is more LB than Safety..

I tend to be more supportive of Edmunds than most on this board, but I’m nowhere near using the word “elite” in a sentence about him unless it’s preceded by “not.” I agree with you on his areas of relative strength, but elite? I guess his physical traits offer that potential, but he’s been a SS long enough to show glimpses of that potential, and I haven’t seen it I think he’s an average NFL SS, with physical traits to be better.

I want paid even more so I’m going to finally play better. Lol. As if the almost 11 million dollar contract wasn’t enough to make him perform well.

I wish nfl teams paid by performance year to year.

Big pay day for what? The guy has been the weakest link of our secondary since he has started. Hopefully his time as a Steeler will be ending soon and he will be getting his supposed big pay day elsewhere.

I am assuming he is just paraphrasing what was told to him by Colert & Tomlin as to why they were not picking up his option and how this was going to be a great opportunity for him. I wouldn't read to much into his comments.

He's a solid player but not worth a huge huge payday.

Junk player. Bust 1st rounder. He's sucked from day 1, so don't expect big improvement from him even in a contract year.

    Yep.

He would be useful to keep around as it would save a draft pick, unless there was a clear upgrade available.

In the meantime I can’t see a huge payday for him - was it two years ago the Safety FA market was rock bottom? Very few on huge contracts right now.

Big problem that will always follow Terrell as long as he is a Steeler is where he was drafted. He was drafted at least a round early, probably two. If he was taken at the end of round 3 like say Cam Sutton I think we would all be much happier.

Id agree that his role is SS / Dime LB and if he is willing to be realistic about his worth I’ve no issue with him getting another contract. Somewhere in the region of $5m a year would be fine

Is there anyone here who feels he is undervalued as claimed on the open market?
I mean he seems to be always trailing and even with his athleticism but maybe we dont hear about him much because he is always doing his role correctly?

Terrell Edmunds likely wants either near or the current market value for Safeties; all the more reason the Jamal Adams Contract holdup should warrant some additional attention. Not saying he will receive the immense payday Adams will but it is likely Terrell will ask for close to the current market value. If not, guess 2021 will be his final year in Pittsburgh.

All this said, none of this matters if Terrell does not show out in 2021 the same. That is what is going to be critical here.

Adams is a far better player than Edmunds. If the latter doesn't realize that going into his contract negotiations, he will not be a Steeler going forward. They aren't that stupid.

Same thing happened with Alvin. Got some dough and started showing what we hoped for the first 4 years. That and the luxury of having the best OLB on the other side who made a position switch and still lit it up.

    Beer in a bottle... $1.25
    Bowl of microwave popcorn... $2.00
Reading Formerscribe's posts after Terrell Edmunds signs a long term contract with the Steelers... priceless
