I thought they paid Sutton to be the outside CB, Pierre will be the 3rd outside CB, Brooks and Maulet could start the season at slot CB.

Pierre isn't going to play slot CB, Sutton may play both slots if they struggle to find a slot CB.

He plays inside and out, right now he is the only one we know of thats capable playing the slot. Before Nelson was let go, the slot was the position Suttons name was most attached to. I’m sure they plan to move him around though, Tomlin likes that versatility.

Brooks wasn’t very good last year, he’ll need to show a lot of improvement in preseason to lock down the slot roll.

I heard Brooks was taking snaps at slot CB at OTAs, Maulet played CB/S with the Jets.

All to be determined in camp I guess. It would be a huge leap for Pierre to become the full time starter even if he is looking good in OTA’s and Camp. Injuries could force him in to a starting role of course. That is often how guys like him emerge.

I’m just saying out of all the guys mentioned, Pierrre is ahead of them all and climbing the depth chart. Unless people think Maulet will make an impact I don’t see how Pierre doesn’t start over any of those guys.

Maybe. The open spot in in that nickel role though. I think Pierre will play on the perimeter or not at all. You don’t see many big long 6’2 slot corners in the league. It’s not just about the depth chart, it’s about who is suited to doing specific roles as well.

We are all just speculating of course.

No, I agree with that, Pierre won’t be in the slot.

What, no love for Layne? :lolol:

I stated in other threads that Pierre is a diamond in the rough and will excel.

He should be the Defensive Coordinator.

if gilbert is healthy and stays healthy, he may be the best of the young DB's. i'm hoping he earns that dime role at least at some point.

I thought Brooks was a safety-hybrid linebacker type that Barron used to play? I could see him possibly covering a TE, as if any Steelers DB can, but I would be surprised if he could cover slot WRs. I could see him playing the blitzing role that Hilton had, so maybe he can cover a 4.6/40 slot receiver.

I think we'll be ok in the secondary. I like many of the young guys we brought in. I'm more worried about OLINE and OLB
    depth.

I'm scared 2 death of the secondary. IMO We only have 2 dependable players back there, and one is getting long in the tooth.
See how we all are focused on something different. LoL.

I like the 4 main guys: Fitzpatrick, of course. Haden is still solid. Sutton has been solid and even though Edmonds hasnt played like a 1st rounder, he hasn't been terrible, and last year he was better. Maybe things click for him this year like they did with Bud. I think Pierre will be ok for us. And I like some of the young guys like Shakur Brown who could have easily been drafted and Gilbert.

We literally have a brand new OLINE, minus Chuks, and he was not great last year. Thats my big worry. They need to jell fast.

And last year Highsmith stepped it up as the #3 OLB, this year MAYBE its Roche? That depth is more of a concern there....to me at least.

Agree OLB #3 is by far the biggest need going in to the season IMO. I don’t trust Marsh or Roche to have any impact whatsoever. They need somebody that can play 400 snaps + and not be a liability. And that’s if there are no injuries

Justin Houston, perhaps? Depending on how much money he wants...I would be ok with it.

Don't get your hopes up, Houston is over 30 and can't play special teams, the Steelers will likely sign someone younger.
