I remember Bill Parcells always preaching how important the Field of Possession game is as a viable metric.

I honestly never seem Pressley Harvin play until I found some promo videos of him and I never became so excited about a punter since that one punter that got drafted but was always injured.

When I was just starting to understand the game I remember punters being graded by hang time and coffin corner kicks and pooch kicks to not get a touch back.

This kid seems to have that touch.

With Boz I think this combo will be a great X factor that maybe not make the highlights or box stats and scores but can no doubt still be a valuable asset.

Any GT fans here who can comment if the hype is legit?

We haven’t had that guy who can flip the field, hopefully Harvin can be that guy.

Sepulveda was this guy at one time and then fizzled out. Hopefully Harvin becomes a difference maker.

Yes! I saw film where Sepulveda was like a line backer out there on a punt.

maybe like what ray guy did for oakland back in the day. he was a helpful weapon. out kicking coverage has hurt us in the past though, so this can work good or bad at times.

His knock coming out in the draft was that he was inconsistent. If Danny Smith can put the bubble gum down for a second, maybe he'll see something in Harvin that can reign in that consistency. Because there's no doubt the kid can boom it. Smith was at his pro day so I'm sure he saw enough to give KC the thumbs up. It would be a nice weapon for the STs.

I hope he can be a difference maker as well. Harvin's kicking style concerns me. I am still not buying that he is a lock to make the team. One thing is for sure. The punting battle alone makes this preseason worth watching.

Geez, there was a thread about whether fans were expecting too much from Najee Harris, now one on the punter as a secret weapon. I think Najee will be fine. He may struggle given the state of the OL, but fans will be happy with what they see. He may not be a pro bowler in yr 1, but he’ll look like the real deal. As for Harvin, can anyone name me a rookie punter in the totality of NFL history who was memorable? I’ll settle for him being better than Berry.

Any player that makes it to the HOF has to be called memorable, and Ray Guy was enshrined.

Being sarcastic (somewhat), but will his gut get in the way Boz's leg when he kicks?

I am guessing he will not be the holder.

Why not? I can't remember the last time the Steelers had a holder who wasn't the punter.

Usually it's the backup QB on other teams at least I thought.

His body type is probably not conducive to Harvin being the holder. It sounds mean, but its reality.

IDK current data and frankly am to lazy to even care to look it up, but wiki (for what that is worth) lists only a couple of teams that still use the b/u QB. One of the reasons is that 'unit' is only involved in sp team plays so more time for their practice and more time for the b/u QB to take his reps. I seem to remember when the 3rd string QB rule was in affect there was concern because the 3rd string could only be activated if both the 1st and 2nd became injured. I have no doubt the new P can do this, but kickers are a strange lot and like consistency. Just make sure his hands are bacon grease free before game time and he should be fine.

I just read an older report on him from Steelers Depot, he actually did the holding for the PK in college.

It would be wise to have Mason Rudolph being able to be a reliable place holder. After all backup QBs have been known to have that duty & it can be used as a weapon for trick plays...

That’s right, I forgot about that. I just can’t see how this guy doesn’t make the team. He’d have to be pretty awful and that doesn’t seem to be the case.

I’m not getting real excited over one pass in 4 college years. At least that’s all I can find. But apparently before the draft scouts did have him do some passing. His form and distance looked good. Heck, if he throws a 50 yard interception, that’s equal to a good punt.
